hobbits

(OOC - Having been in the Bree-lands for a month or so, Angrinc has seen and learnt much that is new to him.  In particular, he has come to know hobbits and their ways, and the scholar in him has demanded that he set down his observations and feelings for posterity.  As he comes to meet more of the peoples of Middle-earth, he may well continue to chronicle his perceptions of each….)

As I find myself ever drawn to the Western lands of this Middle-earth, I have, for the first time in my life, met the strange people called hobbits.

Once I met an old man
Looking quite content
Eating fish and taters stewed with dill
I went over to him
He smiled at me and said
‘Listen to me story if you will’

Summer days are rainy, winter days are cold
Still the Shire life is good
Happy days await you, even when your old
If you eat your favourite food

I walked along the riverbank when something caught me eye,
A little bobbing wooden boat beneath the sunlit sky,
Now boats are tricky things, of course, but deep inside I knew,
My inner Took could not resist the call of waters blue.

Travel Diary, Day 6

Arrived at place called the Forsaken Inn. Very bad beer and queer folk about but many good stories to be had if you are patient. A passing Dwarf was playing Great East Road and I stopped to listen for a bit. Had to share a lot of pipeweed before folk would talk much.
