Background

Early years and Pre The Bloody Dawn.

Born in the Northern Chetwood to a hired outlaw Chaney Oakleaf and his woman Rossalyn, Chaney (Pronounced Chain-ee) has known nothing more than the dodgy dealings of the Blackwold outlaws and in more recent times those that inhabit Beggars Alley in Bree. She lived in the camps of the Blackwolds for 16 summers along with her mother mostly, as her father was often raiding with the other outlaws. As a young child she roamed the camps and nearby trees of Chetwood with other children stealing from travelers whom happened by the woods, and climbing trees with her childhood friends for fun.

When she was 16 years of age her father, whom had steadily been having a change in heart towards his and his family’s way of life, was murdered by Jagger Jack, a renowned and feared outlaw within the ranks of the Blackwolds. His murder was a pointless one which should have been avoided. The argument, unbeknownst to the young sibling, was merely about him and his family giving up the outlaw way of life and hopefully settling to a more lawful, peaceful living. The murder, however, deeply scarred the young girl, whom had witnessed this first hand. Her immediate reaction was to gather her belongings which weren’t a great amount and flee to nearby Archet.

She never stayed long in Archet and promptly moved on to nearby Bree settling somewhat awkwardly at first to life in the notorious Beggars Alley. She quickly learned to adjust to life here and deal with those around her with an ever watchful eye and cunning. Quick with a blade and quick on her feet, Chaney soon found her skills as a burglar or thief to be an advantage among those with coin. After a few years her talents started to become known and the young girl started to work for a few not so pleasant folk whom wanted others robbed, burgled, or even at times killed.

Chaney is expertly skilled with the dagger and is extremely nimble and silent when she goes about her business. This no doubt taught to her through the years by her father, and in more recent times by learning from the other would be thieves, cutthroats, and rogues that inhabit Beggars Alley.

She has started to make quite a name for herself and indeed earned quite some coin from her endeavors and work. This has caught the eye and watch of the Bree Guard on a number of occasions. She is also not one to be underestimated as one or two would be assailants have found out to their demise.

Chaney does not know if her mother is still alive or indeed dead. She has never yet ventured back into the Chetwood to find out. One day she hopes to do this if she can find the right hired help or friend or two to join her as she knows deep in her heart she will not settle until the man whom killed her father is dead.

TA 3018 and meeting with Basaran.

In more recent times as Chaney's infamy has begun to grow with the Bree Town Guard so it has become harder for her to find a living amongst the folk of Bree.

She happened upon a poster nailed across one of the town notices on a board with a dagger. What caught her eye was the golden sigil gleaming in the midday sun. Upon reading the poster she decided that whomever these people were she was going to find out. Maybe even a chance for her to rid her life of villainy, theft, and murder. But at the same time uphold within herself her oath to avenge her father.

That very day within the Prancing Pony Chaney met with a man whom wore a golden sigil similar to that on the poster. He spoke to her at great length regarding the exploits and adventures of a company of folk he belonged to calling themselves The Bloody Dawn.

Chaney was very interested in what the man had to say, and at the same time rather surprised to learn that they weren't your everyday run of the mill burglars or brigands. This warmed her heart a little to the thought of a chance of breaking free from her life, up to now, of treachery and murder..................

A Dawn Meeting....and chance encounter with a Sellsword

Chaney's decision to meet again with these folk proved more than she bargained for in that she was held in the company of a number of their group within the confines of their house. This house was what they called "The Dawnhall"

From what she could gather, they seemed to be troubled by something or someone. However, she could not find out a name if any of whom they were gravely discussing.

Later that same day Chaney, much to her surprise was pitted, in a training duel only, but pitted nonetheless against a man whom seemed very skilled and sure of himself.

She would prove, however, more than a match for the man......
