Adventures of Chaney Oakleaf Book4 Part2

The Journey begins…

Chaney had stayed long enough in Bree and it was now time to make preparations, and head out west in her search for redemption. She wasted little time in packing her belongings, backpack, weapons, and provisions, all for the trip.

As she set off down the cobbles which led away from the Prancing Pony she let out a sigh, a sigh of relief at the fact of leaving her past behind her. There were, however, certain parts of that which she hated leaving. Her beloved horse, and her best friend, Taala, whom she never got to say goodbye to.

As she approached the main West Gate, she noticed a man stood alone. She didn’t care much for the attention of men at the moment. Her feelings were still very raw from what certain ones had done to her over the recent months, and she cared none now either for another’s attention.

The man walked up to her just outside the West Gate and had asked her where a woman alone would be traveling. Chaney would coldly reply that she was headed due west for now, after that she would turn north. The man offered his services as a guide. The man certainly looked as though he may know the wilds somewhat.

The majority of the time on the road passed peacefully uneventful. No sign of danger, in fact no sign of anyone for that matter save the inhabiting wildlife. The odd bear or two, even wolves howling far off but none close by posing danger, are all they encountered.

Eventually they would reach the Brandywine River and two choices were upon them. Either they crossed via the Brandywine Bridge, which would take them into the Marish which formed the easternmost part of The Shire, or they could swim the river and cross just north and evade any inquisitive hobbits whom may poke their noses into their business.

Chaney would decide upon crossing via the bridge, and they would continue through Stock, and eventually turn north through Budgeford and trek north on towards the Brockenborings far to the northern parts of the Shire. It was on their journey north that the man would formally introduce himself as Denaric or Rick for short, and that he were a woodsman and seasoned traveller of the lands. Chaney would merely offer her name, however the man knew whom she was already.

Chaney indeed recognized the man but hadn’t said anything to him thus far. It was Rick Cobb whom seemed friendly with Taala. It was on that fateful day when the Bloody Dawn had departed for their ill-fated trip into the Misty Mountains many months previously. She had seen him stood with her friend and assumed that they knew each other. Still Chaney would remain on her guard…………
