Adventures of Chaney Oakleaf Book4 Part1

After the Dawn

It would be at Neyaa’s farm, who part owned, albeit the majority share, with a man called Awilred or Wil for short, that she would part company with her beloved Bertnar. Chaney had met Wil on one previous occasion. That was after a heartfelt talk with Neyaa one evening regarding Chaney’s future with The Dawn, with life, and indeed home in the Breeland.

It would not be forever though, at least not what Chaney thought anyways. She knew, however, that taking him on such a long journey might be the death of him. Or such a journey fraught with danger may also spell his death. Chaney did not want that for her friend. No he would be more at home, and more to the point safe at Neyaa’s.

Wil took him off her hands and led him to the corral where all the other horses were kept. She gave him one more hug and thanked Wil. She then set off down the road away from the farm. It would be a very long time before she visited there again.

Bree would be her final stop on the road before leaving west and heading out into the wilds. The Inn, perhaps she would see a few familiar faces before leaving town. Not to mention a few ales of Barliman’s best before leaving. Nothing like his ale to warm up the body for a long trek.

She had wanted information on the men she now seeked, however, Barliman had only handed her a brief note with nothing more than a few rumours written on it. East or west, maybe even north of here. Somewhat disgruntled Chaney would drink her ale, contemplate her next move, and enter somewhat halfheartedly, and less than caring into a conversation with a man, a woman, and a Halfling that had joined them.

The woman seemed all the more interesting to her when she announced that she knew of Fiontann, which was after Chaney had asked around regarding the men she sought after. The woman’s name was Mynna, a beautiful dark haired woman whom looked to be in her mid-twenties maybe. She certainly hadn’t seen her in the Inn before.

However she had offered Chaney some hope of finding the man whom, in her eyes, had wronged her. The woman, Mynna, had spoken at length with a young man whom seemed to be on some sort of company business. Maybe a rival sellsword? A Town Guard? Chaney didn’t know, but it seemed her only hope for now.

Mynna returned with not much to tell, only that to not give up hope. At length Chaney would leave the Inn after saying final goodbyes to the old Innkeeper. She set out down the track toward the West Gate, and set out for what she would hope would be some sort of redemption.
