Olver cries out into the night; this, his darkest hour. He calls Rhoana’s name and then falls, into the darkness, into oblivion, and the shadow takes him…
Following is an account of the events that occurred at an undisclosed location in the Bruinen Source of the Misty Mountains, concerning the defeat and fall of Olver Greyhern:
Prior to said events, Olver had infiltrated a gang of brigands, a clandestine dark Brotherhood, and posed as one of its members with the intentions of destroying the cult from within. The brotherhood was found to be responsible for numerous atrocities including the murder of Alan and Heather Goatwillow of Combe, Olver’s surrogate parents.
It is unknown as to where or how long Olver spent his time with the brotherhood or what deeds he committed in order to remain undetected but it is noted, from interviews with acquaintances of the deceased, that his attitude became more erratic and his mood darkened the longer he spent in the shadow of the brotherhood.
On the night in question, it was told that Olver ventured into the wilds of the Misty Mountains to attend a meeting of the Brotherhood’s upper echelons, a formal induction, and would finally meet with the group operators; the leaders of the dark cult. Waiting in reserve in case all went wrong were Olver’s good friends, Wolt and Bardurin Dainul, instructed to keep a distance.
Olver was heavily outnumbered by the Brotherhood higher members and after long discourse it was revealed that the leader, a large overbearing, terrible figure of a man, claimed to be Olver’s true birth father.
Olver faltered then and it was as though all hope left him. In the confusion that followed, Olver, barely together, renounced the Brotherhood and a deadly duel ensued between him and his supposed father. Wolt and Bardurin took up the fight and were aided by a chance scouting party of elves out of Rivendell.
The battle was short but fierce and culminated with the defeat of Olver Greyhern, cut off from his comrades, and the Brotherhood scattered into the night. Succumbing to his wounds, Olver staggered and fell some height into the Bruinen and was believed to have perished beneath its savage, unforgiving, icy waters.
