I have arrived in Bree-land. As promised, my new home and work space have been prepared ahead of time. My belongings have not gotten misplaced and all are accounted for. Both the snakes and fish have made it, still alive and in good health.
The town is not what I expected.
I've heard news of a town meeting and attended. At first, I believed that illness was spreading and I had arrived in good time to offer my assistance, but instead, their "disease" was related to outlaws. Kidnapping, beatings, and murder.
Unless they require an examination of a body, I won't be of much use to them.
I have learned that the stories of small people, the Hobbits, are true. Few were seen at the meeting, one of them being the subject of abduction.
Later, near evening, I had the good fortune of speaking to one. They are interesting. The Hobbits do not have beastly feet, as stories would describe, but instead, they are thick skinned and rather hairy.
I am told that they do not wear protective footwear unless doing work in the wetlands. I suspect to avoid leeches.
Mister Theodacar, the Hobbit, has agreed to become my subject of research. The small people seem to be common in the town and if I am to treat them, I must know more about them.
- * Thick skin, full body?
- * Hairy feet, fur-like quality?
- * Resistance to cold and heat?
- * How much in common with Men?
- * How is their age process?
My new neighbors seem wary, but have shown kindness. Much like mister Theodacar, who offered me a drink and a pouch of pipe weed. Maybe it is a common trait for the Breelanders.
- * Test the leaves. Do they have any medical qualities?
I learned that there is an Inn just across the street. This will serve me well. I will be able to eat proper meals and rest if I require to sleep outside my own home. The Crow's Claw, I think it was called. Decent place, quiet and the staff friendly.
I will need to start thinking about hiring help.
- * Housekeeper
- * Gardener?
- * Assistant?
