Adventures of Chaney Oakleaf Book3 Part10

Ending of the Dawn

The time had now come for Chaney to leave Taala’s. She felt in herself fully rested and had recovered suitably enough physically, although she still showed evidence of the scars via bruises upon her face and body. Emotionally it would be a very long time before she would allow the trust of any man to get the better of her again, however.

She sat and wrote a quick letter to Taala thanking her and Neyaa for all they had done for her. The letter also addressed Eroforth and Deredan whom had helped in their own ways. Although it was more at the orders of their respective partners.

Chaney wrote another letter addressed to Taala herself, this one contained the sigil of The Bloody Dawn within it. She thought long and hard for a few moments before eventually taking the sigil back and placing it in her pouch held on her waist. She would tear up the letter and place it in the fireplace and set fire to it.

Chaney gathered her belongings, packed, and set foot outside, and headed over to Bertnar whom was grazing at the time. She saddled and harnessed him and before long was ready to leave. She tied her backpack and other items onto Bertnar, covered her head and face with a hood and cowl, and took out the two daggers that had been hand crafted for her by the man she now resented.

She took aim and threw these with deadly accuracy into the mail post stood outside the foot door, and replaced these with two daggers she had found in the camps on the night of her escape. She slipped these into the scabbards at each side of her belt.

Chaney would mount Bertnar and take a final look at Taala’s and Neyaa’s and whisper a thankyou and goodbye. With a tear rolling down her cheek she set off, and headed for the Dawnhall.

Upon reaching there, she found it to be empty, a relief somewhat as she did not wish to come into contact with anyone at this time. Again she would remove the sigil, hold it up as if to throw it to the ground, but then after a moment replaced it back in her pouch. She turned Bertnar and started the steady ride through Towerglan.

Leaving Towerglan, Chaney would head up to the crossroads not far up the road and look in each direction. She would finally settle on riding down through the Southern Chetwood and head toward the Halecatch Lakes. A place that she had always loved………………

A place she had always felt peace……………
