Here the line of the Stonebeards history is written down. This one was originally written in Angerthas, the Dwarven writing system. But was later translated.

It is not common that Dwarves earn their ''last name'' by inheriting it from their father. The line of the Stonebeards is one of the few Dwarven families that do. Hrothghor was the first one that earned the name and ever since then it have been inherited from son to son.
Hrothghor earned it cause of his beard being thick as stone and also his mind. As nothing or no one could change his mind when he decided upon something, he was stubborn as stone, so to say.
