Background

Youth

Dhordur Stonebeard, Troll Slayer, son of Ghord Stonebeard was born in 2860 of the Third Age in the Blue Mountains. The name of Stonebeard is an heritage that this family was granted ages ago. Dhordur belonged to one of the three Stonebeard families that used to exist in Middle Earth. His family hailed from Erebor, the Lonely Mountain but had to flee when Smaug the Dragon attacked and took the mountain. One of the families had moved out of Middle Earth and used to hail from the Iron Hills. The third one was also hailing from the Iron Hills and were still living there.

Dhordur grew up in the Blue Mountains along with the rest of the refugees and their children from the Lonely Mountain. His father learned him everything that came with fighting. His father had joined the guard at Blue Mountains and had became the captain of the guard. Dhordurs mother was named Nathi, he had an older brother by the name of Thorigh, he got an younger brother by the name of Dwalg and a younger sister by the name of Hohni.

He also used to work in the mines, working on his profession, he learned himself at the same time as he was learning under master Hughor, the master smith. He grew stronger and stronger, he could even match himself with his older brother when they were training for battle.

Battle, Glorious Battle

Year was now 2941 of the Third Age, Thorin II Oakenshield set off from the Blue Mountains with a group of Dwarves on a quest to reclaim Erebor, the Lonely Mountain for the Dwarves. Two months before they set off did Dhordurs father Ghord Stonebeard take his sons with him and traveled to the Iron Hills to visit his brother, Steingi and the other part of the Stonebeard family. Dâin II Ironfoot got a message with a raven from the Lonely Mountain, he took a large company of battle hardened soldiers and was about to set off, Ghords brother along with his brothers son was in the company. Ghord and his sons was allowed to join the company as well.

Dhordur was currently 81 when this was occurring. He was the father of a son and married to a female Dwarf named Younh. They had heard rumors that Smaug was dead and the Lonely Mountain was the Dwarves again. When they all finally arrived they could see a large army of Elves and a smaller army of Dale Men that had laid the Lonely Mountain at siege. Dâin was of course angry, just as the rest of the Dwarves were. A bloody battle almost happened there and then between them all. Gandalf the Grey were there, one of the wizards and tried to stop the battle, telling them about a danger coming.

Goblins from the Misty Mountains and the Grey Mountains were marching upon them under the leadership of Bolg, spawn of Azog the Defiler that Dâin II Ironfoot had slain in the War of Dwarves and Orcs outside the gates to Khazad-dûm. The three commanders agreed and put their dislikes aside for the time being. They assembled their forces, the Dwarven and Men forces went to one of the spurs and the Elves to the other spur, one small rear guard stood up as a line in the valley between the spurs to lure the Goblins.

Eventually the Goblins army arrived with bats and Wargs. The battle started, after some time the stone wall that blocked the entrance to the Lonely Mountain was thrown down, killing a lot of Goblins. Then Thorin II Oakenshield was seen charging out of the mountain along with his twelve companions. After more battle, Dhordur's older brother, Thorigh, was overpowered and slain by seven Goblins. Dhordur was blinded by rage and killed all of the Goblins that had slain his brother. Then he picked his brothers body up, carrying it to the front gate of the Lonely Mountain, putting him down there for the time being.

He charged right back into battle. Eventually the Eagles and the Shape shifter known as Beorn emerged upon the battlefield, slaying a lot of Goblins, turning the tide to their favor. Then Beorn could be seen, carrying the hurt Thorin II Oakenshield out of battle along with the two brothers Fili and Kili.

When the battle was over and won it came up that Thorin II Oakenshield and his nephews, Fili and Kili had died. They were entombed in the Lonely Mountain. Dhordurs brother were entombed there as well, in their old family tomb as was Dhordurs cousin, Frekk, father of Orhn and son of Steingi.

Dâin II Ironfoot became the new King under the mountain.

The Family

Sorrow had struck the family but more would come eventually. For now the family moved back into the Lonely Mountain, helping to restore it to it's former glory. His father joined the Regular Guard as he had enough of fighting. His younger brother joined the Kings Guard, Dhordur joined the regular guard as his father.

The Sad Time

More sorrow were upon to struck the Stonebeard family. Dhordurs father, Ghord Stonebeard were guarding miners when the mine started to crumble. He evacuated the miners but gave his life at the same time, the cave collapsed and he got crushed under stones. They managed to dig up his body and entomb it. Some time passed and a new sorrow was going to struck the family. Dhordur, his wife and his mother were out in a cave, exploring with a group of other Dwarves. A wall in the cave collapsed and a Troll came through it. It quickly killed one Dwarf and grabbed Dhordur's mother, banging her head in against the wall, killing her instantly. Then it picked up a huge builder and threw it at the others and Dhordurs wife got killed by it.

Dhordur, now blinded by rage, charged the Troll with his two handed axe held high, swiping at the Trolls feet and then climbing it's back. When he was up on it he raised the axe high and in one sweep he killed the Troll by cutting the head of.

After the battle he was in sorrow and pain for he had lost his mother and wife in one battle before he could do anything to prevent it. He took the head as a trophy and from this day he was known as Dhordur Stonebeard, Troll Slayer.

The sorrow was not over for the family yet. Time passed on and now it came to these years, the Dourhands that always had bad blood against the Stonebeards, moved against the Longbeards, betraying them. Around that time did Dhordurs son go with a small group to scout a said to be Dourhand camp nearby the Lonely Mountain. Only one Dwarf returned, hurt and talking about ghosts and bones emerging from the ground.

Dhordur, blinded by rage yet again, took his armor and his axe. He headed out towards the camp to find his son or die trying. When he arrived the Dourhands had already left, he could not find his son among the dead and head back to the Lonely Mountain. There he packed his bag and head of to find his son. His son were 74 now and Dhordur were 137.

The Search

Dhordur tracked the Dourhands from camp to camp, fighting through them all. He gathered information on his sons whereabouts. His path eventually led him to the Blue Mountains, Thorin's Hall, there he met Barkgrim and joined the Durin's Folk under Uzbad Duinn's leadership that promised to help him to find his son and pay revenge upon the Dourhands.

Time passed again, he eventually found the right camp where they held his son. It was located close to the border of Angmar, strangely. He put together a small group of five, two Men and three Dwarves. The rescue went bad and Dhordur along with the other two Dwarves were captured, the Men were killed. There was an Necromancer that could call upon the dead to do his bidding, wearing an eye as a symbol. He had also seen a white hand symbol on some Orcs that had been in one of the camps not long ago. He had also been tortured for information on the Longbeards, he gave them nothing, he was a stubborn Dwarf. He had also heard the guards talking a lot about Khazad-dûm.

Finally the time came, they had set up camp not far from the Iron Hills as he heard a guard say. One of the nights Dhordur were awaken by something moving in a bush nearby, then some arrows were sent out quickly from it, killing the guarding Dourhands. Then a hooded figure in green came out, holding a bow. He helped all the captives out, only Dwarves were captured there. Then they escaped the camp thanks to the hooded Man setting fire to it.

The Way Home

They set up camp after some time, far away from where they escaped from. Dhordur found out that the hooded Man was a Ranger from the North and was heading towards Dale and the Lonely Mountain. They were able to get to Dale without much trouble. There Dhordur set off into the Lonely Mountain, Erebor, meeting his brother and sister and getting new clothes and armor and a new axe. The armor was an very old one, that had been sent down the line of the Stonebeards for long. He sent a letter back to Durin's Folk, letting them know of his captivity, right after that he set off back to the Blue Mountain.

He was accompanied by the Ranger that was headed for Bree. As soon as they arrived at Bree, the Ranger said good bye and set off into Bree. Dhordur himself did not want to waste too much time and set directly off towards Thorin's Hall. He finally arrived, getting greeted by some of the Durin's Folk.

Khazad-dûm

Dhordur heard news of an exploration to reclaim the long lost Khazad-dûm. As he heard the guards when he was captured talking about it, he knew that somewhere in the depths of it he could find new information on his son. He volunteered to follow with the exploration. Balin had set off a long time ago with his own exploration to reclaim it, but nothing had been heard from them for a long time. There were rumors of a group that had entered Khazad-dûm not long ago.

The exploration set of and headed for Khazad-dûm. The road there was dangerous, they lost a few on the way there. When they finally arrived they started to make a new road up to the Door of Durin as the old one was destroyed and a lake was in the way of it. The door itself was destroyed with a cave in, stones and boulders were in the way so they had to mine it cleared. They worked for a little over two weeks before they managed to uncover the entrance.

It was night when they finally got the last boulder away. And the moon light shined upon the entrance where the Door of Durin used to be. Just as they gathered the last of their things and were going to enter some creature started to attack them all. One of the Dwarves were dragged into the lake and they managed to strike the creature back until it disappeared back into the lake and they went inside.

There Dhordur stayed for a long, long time, gathering information on his sons whereabouts and trying to uncover his families first hall in Khazad-dûm. He had no luck on the second part for now and had waisted a lot of time in the depths of Khazad-dûm. He also got little information on his son's whereabouts, he had been held there but had been moved two weeks after they had entered Khazad-dûm, towards the north and the cold of Forochel, he found out. He had also recently got news of a siege of Sarnûr back in Ered Luin by his kin, the Durin's Folk. He had been away from everything for so long, so he also received news that his kin had started up the old trading posts, Othrikar in the North Downs and Zigilgund in Forochel.

Zigilgund and the Siege of Sarnûr

Dhordur sent a letter to the Master of trade up in Zigilgund, not only to help out there but also to try to find his son again. The master of trade, Zabad Thorlaen, answered his letter when Dhordur had arrived back at Thorin's Hall. He was accepted to be the new Guard Captain up in Zigilgund. Just a few days before he got that letter he had also signed up for a journey towards Erebor, to give his axe and help securing the journey there.

He had also rejoined the army side and started to help out at the siege. He was still looking for his son as well, he had decided to use the time up in the north to look for his son or any information about him. He would also try to find out information during the siege against Sarnûr as there were Dourhands behind those walls.
