The fever is starting to leave my body and mind.
I still carried my equipment when i fell from that cliff and lost consciousness, so i may be able to start a fire. My food rations are almost gone, but a deer corpse is lying almost intact, and apparently the cold has kept it in excellent conditions. The bear is sleeping right now... i don't know how much time has passed. It could have been a couple of hours or days. Just now i'm starting to think clearly. For what i can see there is no way out of this cave for now. I can see the snow blocking the cave entrance is melting. I'm collecting the water to drink it. If it doesn't snow in the next 24 hours i may be able to finish clearing the entrance.
When i try to remember what happened i get lost in my mind. My head still hurts from the hit. It may leave a scar, but it's not bleeding anymore: the cold freezes anything. I remember we had left the Giants halls, when Komatsu decided to return on his own to search a missing item. The group instantly went behind him, even those with more experience showed not discipline at all. I tried to stop them but my words were in vain. So i followed them. As soon as we entered a giant saw us and attacked. He was probably the biggest one we had seen in the whole day. Once we defeated him i urged them to return to the camp, but they could not bare to leave Komatsu behind. So i told them to return to the camp, and to let me find him Komatsu, after all, one man can easily hide from a giant. The only one that followed me was the friendly polar bear who had followed us with curiosity the whole trip, looking at us from a distance.
I started walking, following the clear footprints that could be seen on the snow. I thought i would find him fast, as Komatsu is an elder man. But the footprints continued and i couldn't see any figure in the horizon. And even weirder... the footprints were going towards the mountains, away from the Giants halls. So i started to advance with more precaution when i saw them: two giants returning to their Halls, probably from hunting, as each one was carrying a deer on their shoulders. I immediately ran to hide behind a great coulder, that was close to a cliff. One bad step was enough, the snow was melting and i slipped towards the cliff, falling about 6 meters into a snow bed. My head still managed to hit a rock covered by snow. If it wasn't because the last day had been snowing... i wouldn't be here to tell this story.
After that my memories fade... i don't know how i entered this cave. My only guess is that the polar bear dragged me inside and kept me warm with his body heat. This animal seems to have known men from before, and gladly they were kind enough for him to remember that.
My next task is to recover my strengths. I can't think now that this whole disaster was my fault. I can't let that thought take power of me. The guilt wants to eat me from inside. I have no idea how the others are doing and that's the worst part. I can only hope for the best and remember her smile and her blue eyes to recover even faster. I will save my provisions for the return travel, and eat some of the deer meat now. My only objective now is to survive.
