Chapter six: Nightmare of frost
"There's something I wish to speak to you about." Faorie said, as Thendryt turned to face her after closing the balcony door.
"I'm listening." Thendryt replied as he walked over to her.
"I had not intended to mention it to you at first, but recent events have convinced me that it would be better if I allow you the knowledge of these... Well... Dreams." She turned from him with an expressionless face.
"Recently, I have been experiencing odd dreams..." Thendryt stayed quiet.
"The Warband traveled to Mirkwook to aid the Malledhrim some time ago, do you know of this?" Faorie glanced over her shoulder to look at Thendryt.
"I do." He had gotten a lecture of the Warband's most recent operations from Khalis when he came back.
Faorie nodded and turned back to look into the distance. "Our time there was beneficial to the Elves, however, the wood changed me somewhat. Ever since I've been having these dreams." Thendryt looked down on her hands, they were clenched, but not tightly.
"They almost seem like visions, though I question the accuracy of them. There are some that seem rather... " She spoke with a quiet tone, almost a whisper, lowering her head. "Well I had a dream. You were in it."
Thendryt walked over and put a hand on her shoulder. She seemed sincerely concerned and he respected that. Even though he didn't put much faith in dreams, he knew they could be powerful.
She paid him no heed but continued to speak. "These dreams seem off... But they've been representing the events that have occurred recently." Thendryt removed his hand and leaned on the railing.
"In my dream, you were covered in snow and strong winds were forcing you of your feet." She looked at him, her expression serious. "You were on a cliff... This may sound strange to hear from me, for we have not spoken much nor do we know much of each other, but you are my ally and Kinsman, and I must be sure that you refrain from placing yourself in danger that threatens your very life."
Thendryt looked at Faorie. "Having nightmares are not unusual Faorie, and even though they may be bad, doesn't mean that they will come true."
"I do not believe them to be visions nor do I truly believe that you would be swept off a mountain by strong winds and snow... But I believe my dream to be a warning. I ask that you simply be cautions. That's all." She was looking straight into his eyes, meaning every word.
"Is this why you wanted to accompany me to the Misty Mountains? Because of your dream?"
Faorie gripped his shoulder. Tightly. "The Man you seek is also a danger. There are many dangers. Do not think one less threatening than the other."
Thendryt looked into her eyes. "I would never make that mistake." Faorie nodded slowly.
"Let me know about any news you gather regarding him if you can." She said.
Thendryt broke eye-contact, looking down at the stream below. "I will."
Faorie let go of his shoulder, slowly.
"Thendryt... Just be cautions..." She whispered, then walked towards the door.
Thendryt looked up and watched her leave.
