The Shadow Blades vs the Blood Cult Campaign - Day 10: Epilogue

((Written by Antlos))

After Action Report: Day 10 - Epilogue

We arrived safely at Esteldin. We might spend a couple of days here to regain our strength, or we might march again tomorrow, it is not decided yet but, one way or the other our campaign here is over.

Now, in the safety of these walls, I have the time and the peace of mind to look back at the past days and realize how vain was our effort. We came here to save the farmers but we arrived too late to prevent it, we failed our mission since the very beginning and we paid our attempt with Tylan's life. It was only luck and by the favour of fate that we didn't loose Charlithel, Nienora or Colt too. Our major achievement was to exact some retribution on the cultists but the truth is we know almost nothing about them, did we cut a hand or barely scratched a fingernail?. We don't know their numbers, we don't know nothing about this Chosen One… did we stopped the raids in North Downs or they will simply resume next moon?. I want to believe that losing Tylan had some meaning, that all our efforts and fatigues made a change, but I can't help feeling like a child riding a broomstick pretending it is a horse.

We return home and try not to think about the horrors we witnessed, the sacrifices, the burnings, all those innocent lives lost. We stepped on the threshold of Angmar and it was enough for us, beyond lies league upon league  of hostile territory, and in there breeds an untold evil. An evil that sooner or later will march south upon our lands and I fear we won't have the power to withstand it.

Meanwhile Wyndslaw and his lass are happy planning a wedding, as if future was granted… Bradien and Redwood fight to get inside Nienora's breeches like if there was nothing else in the world to be troubled for.  I keep my thoughts to myself, there is no point in ruining their joy, let them be happy and rejoice while there is still time, before the dark cloud swallows us all.
