Bright sunlight gleamed off the towers of the city, the elegantly ornamented walls fiery with golden inlays forming intricate patterns. Envandiel pulled her gaze from the window, back to where Metime was kneading bread, elbow-deep in the dough.

Métime grabbed Envandiel’s arm, yanking her attention from the delicate wires on the bench in front of her. She yelped, nearly snapping the strand of fine metal.

Unrest

After the First Age, many elves were left stranded and aimless. Beleriand had sunk beneath the sea, and much was lost. There were two options it seemed. One, sail back to Valinor. After everything that had happened, all the wrongs committed on both sides of the sea, slink back into the shadow of the Valar.

The sunlight streamed through the windows. Outside, wind blew the cherry trees in a graceful fashion, and the long grasses danced in the breeze. Inside, the teenager looked away from the windows. The lavish walls, blue and decorated in elegant swirls and flower art, felt cold compared to the world outside. Melestheliel held a book in her hand. In the dark oak chair she sat in, she looked down to the book.

 Hail-song of black barbed dart and thunder of stone on stone. The Enemy had come at last and the harried remnant stood shoulder to shoulder to test their valor one last time against number uncounted. The bright sea-green banner of the Shipwright fluttered above the walls mocking the Black Captain below. For weeks. Seasons. A year.
