Chapter 2 - A Poor Man's Lodgings

Upon arriving in Bree it was clear that coin, or lack there of, would be my first concern.  What would be considered a moderate amount of coin out in Archet and the smaller villages beyond, now was nothing more than a pittance in a town such as Bree.  Subsequently this now made me a poor man.

A Journal Neglected

It has been around two years now since I first arrived in Bree and began my new life here.  In that time so much has changed, and yet it saddens me that so much still remains the same.

But once again I skip ahead.  It seems as though the weight of my current thoughts rise to the forefront of my mind, and unbidden they manifest themselves on the parchment in front of me.

Prologue

To say that the story of my life has been dictated by the less virtuous instincts of man would be something of an understatement, but forgive me, lest I skip ahead.

I shall start this journal at the point all stories should start, and that would be at the beginning.

Lord Blackthorne was many things. landowner, scholar, husband and even at times something of a musician but of all his pastimes, hunting was his greatest love.

Thamas Lorn, 53rd day of Iavas

At last we are home!

As ever, it brings joy and laughter to be in our beloved land once more. Durthand had made preparation for a small feast for our return, and we were directed to it by a helpful elf named Pennion. It was a delightful end to our time upon the road, and we bade our fond farewells to new friends. I hope it is not long before we meet again, to share some song and talk over a bottle or two here in fair Falathlorn...I would enjoy that greatly.

Echad Sul, 23rd day of Iavas

The past few days have been rather more troubling to us than the initial passage of the Trollshaws.

Though our hearts were lightened in meeting some friends on the way, we have unfortunately encountered orc scouts – first in the lowlands of Nain Enidh, then in greater numbers above, in the hills about Amon Sûl.

Imladris, 47th day of Laer

My business here in Imladris is almost concluded. Lord Elrond is truly a great and wise giver of counsel and I shall treasure his words of hope and advice in the days ahead! I have only some others to speak with then all will be done. On the morrow, we will to set off on the road westward. Most of our gear is packed now, ready for departure.

Imladris, 48th day of Ethuil

I returned from a lengthy ride, into the foothills of Hithaeglir - such tremendous terrain - and sought a restful moment for reflection by the Great Fire, with some wine, before retiring for the night. To my pleasure, I found the Hall to be near empty, but for three or four individuals, talking and reading quietly. After the solitude of the wilderness, the hubbub of a noisy crowd is not the immediate sound I wish to hear!
