Estarfin

Letter to Belegos

What kind of Adventure is this?:
Story

We agreed when we met in Imlad Gelir that we would ride to the coast, to Celondim initially. Having spent a few months wandering, perhaps spending a few months in one place, and that a place Estarfin had said he would like to see again, would be a good thing to do.

Of Belegos

I run ahead in my retelling of events. Something came to pass more recently that the tale of our wanderings East of the Hithaeglir need wait a little.

I would speak with you

They halt at the Last Bridge to give their horses a short rest before crossing into Mannish lands.

Danel dismounts and walks down to the riverside.

"I would speak with you," she says to Estarfin. "There is something I would have you understand."

Crossing the Ford

The two Noldor depart Imladris on their slow ride to the coast. It is not a path Estarfin has followed more than a few times, and they plan to make camp along the way to take in the scenery, and possible talk over a few things.

Too High a Price?

Danel closed her eyes. "She asks too high a price for her gems. I will not pay."

For a moment Estarfin was silent. Then he said. "But you need them?"

"Not at an unnecessary threat to our lives."

He shrugged. I knew well what the expression on his face meant. We would search for the Dragon.

Arriving at Erebor

As they approach the front gates of Erebor, for a very short meeting with a Jewel-smith known to Danel, Estarfin reminds her that he likes the Naugrim 'not at all'. Both, however, are courteous to those they encounter.

Dragon Bones

"There is a foul stench on the air."

Although both are pleased to leave the oppressive forest, their discovery of the bones of a fair sized dragon fill them with revulsion.

"This must be the remains of Smaug," Danel says, thinking of Glaurung.

Estarfin climbs on the bones, and shrugs. He still isn't taken by her idea they do a little Dragon hunting before they leave the north.

"Have a care, Danel. You speak of the days of glory, and perhaps you remember our strength of old too well on this journey."

Seeing Red Already.

We walked to our horses, both stabled close by. I would not say I had peace, but I think I had more of a measure of where I was going than I had since Belegos introduced me to his friend a few years ago.

I returned but a few weeks before the attack, and you had already left on your command to Barad Eithel. I had thought we had all the time in the world.” I sighed deeply, recalling those times. “But you and Forodhir did not return that winter. Instead we had the flames of Angband.”

Estarfin looked slightly troubled. “Everything that could have been was washed away, everything changed. Everyone changed.”

Loeglond and the Dagor Bragollach

The two Noldor head towards the Lake, stopping to take a look around Loeglond. A simpler life it seems to them, though they can find no news of Parnard.

"He does not want to be found." says Estarfin, and Danel is wont to agree. They settle awhile as she asks about Estarfin's experience in the Dagor Bragollach, far from their home.
