Madaurbeth - Curious Things

Madaurbeth,

Hobbits… Hobbits are such curious things.

Their holes do not even deserve to be called holes. They are some of the simplest yet adorable houses I have ever seen. Their doorways are round, all their architecture is round! Those cute little wagons some live in instead of hobbit holes, they are adorable! I honestly want one. I want to ask NimNim if we can buy one when we return to Bree.

Hobbit cooking is incredible! Honestly, far better than my own cooking. Having grown up in Nurn, practically starved, I could never have imagined being in a place where there are much more than three meals a day! I… I honestly cannot eat it all. And the slave in me keeps berating myself for wasting any food. But oh, the hobbits make the most incredible dishes and bake the most incredible treats! I have already bought several cookbooks and plan on buying more. A part of me feels guilty, knowing that in Nurn the food situation is as bad as ever. I am lucky, so lucky. I am trying not to let it distract me from eating such marvelous meals and dishes. That life is behind me now.

The hobbits of Michel Delving are all pleasant, though I can definitely tell there are whispers and rumors spreading, not all good, about our stay in the Shire. The Shire is for the Little Folks, after all. But we plan on leaving it to them and returning home. Still, the hobbits are all lively individuals with their strong personalities and simplistic styles of living. I think I could learn from them… After all, even if not all the hobbits like us, a majority at least treat us in friendly manners. Especially once we tell them our stay is temporary.

Dammon and Briar are still struggling to figure out why these grown adults are as tall as they are.

The hobbits, however, do carry hidden strength. Beneath the simple, gossiping, ignorant fools lies such strength of steel. Their history and lore books tell me all about it. The homeless ancestors migrating across Middle Earth to find a home, historically helping Arnor in its fight against Angmar, their battles with goblins (which even lead to the invention of a new sport!), and more recently the adventures of a legendary and elusive Bilbo Baggins. Hobbits have the potential to be amazing. I simply have not seen it with my own two eyes yet.

All in all, all is well. I am still unable to sleep well, but Ris' letter described searching for more furniture. Nimraph and I are still discussing the potential of moving further into the Tower Hills then Lindon. Nimraph and I continue to deepen our bond, and I feel so loved and amazed. How can someone cherish me as much as he has? Our relationship grows stronger every day, and I feel that coming to the Shire has helped in that. It is strange, it is when we are on our feet and fleeing danger that we most run to each other…

We bought Briar some robes as the Battle of the Pants continues. Dammon, as always, is the sweetest thing.

Until next time, Madaurbeth,

  ~ Eira.
