Retention - Page 4

For how long they had been riding, Abrianna had no idea. Her eyes were getting weary and her whole body seemed to ache as Elvas in a steady pace walked the road leading them further and further away from home. She must had fallen asleep for a moment as she suddenly felt a loss of balance and quickly grabbed onto the saddle, recovering from almost have fallen out of it. Pelldir, riding behind her, noticed this and called out in a tired voice "Lady Abrianna? Are you alright?".

Abrianna turned her head to the side, not being able to look at him properly and not putting any effort into doing so, simply nodded. "Just tired...", she said, turning her head forward again.Pelldir smiled a little, nodding understandingly, "Then let us rest.. come follow me". He turned off to the left and slowly made his way towards a cluster of trees standing close to the roadside and got down from the saddle. Abrianna followed behind him and was helped down to the ground. "Maybe we can get a couple hours of sleep before we continue.. come rest here.", he said, pointing to the trees while smiling softly at her. Abrianna nodded, tiredly returning the smile before she walked to the trees and sat down, relaxing her body as she leaned back. Pelldir saw to the horses before joining her, closing his eyes as he leaned back and sighed out in relaxation.

"Is it far still?", Abrianna asked in a soft tired voice, closing her eyes aswell. "Yes.. at least another day..", he replied. She frowned and seemed unhappy with the answer. "I have never been this far away from home.. ever.. It frightens me.", she said. Pelldir opened his eyes and turned to look at her as he looked a little sad. "I know.. I am frightened too. I have not thought of anything else but my family ever since we left Pelargir.. Wondering if they are alright, if they are alive..". Abrianna stayed quiet for a while, though seemingly thoughtful as a frown of worry was seen on her forehead. " I did not even see my mother... or Alvigny.. Why did we not leave.. all of us?" she spoke.

Pelldir swallowed, turning his head back to rest onto the tree as he closed his eyes again. "I... I don't know..", he said, clearly lying but Abrianna was too tired to notice. Pelldir opened his mouth to speak again, hesitating a moment before he said: " I was 13 when I begun my apprenticeship at you Stable master. That is, what three years ago... yet I remember it like it was yesterday, I was really frightened.. because I did not know what to expect." Abrianna listened, smirking a little "I thought you were going to say you were frightened because of the stable master... he is quite a scary man.. built as a brickhouse and his burduse way". Pelldir laughed a little, nodding in agreement "Yes, I guess.. but you get used to him, he is a right fellow and cannot make more harm than fire can harm fire. No.. I remember I was frightened, of leaving my home and everything that was familiar to me.. but it all worked out well in the end.. Guess what I am trying to say is that.. I think all this will turn out well in the end.. everything happens for a reason.."

Abrianna smiled and nodded slightly and with a sleepy voice she half whispered "Thank you Pelldir.. for trying to make me feel better.. you are sweet...". Pelldir smirked a little and replied "Least I can do, Lady Abrianna.. I will do my very be-..". He opened his eyes and looked at her, noticing that she had fallen asleep. Smiling to himself, placing the palms of his hands behind his head and leaning to the tree, he continued: ".. my very best.. to make you feel safe.." before he sighed out and fell into slumber aswell.
