Gladfred Burrows was always an...well, one hesitates to describe any hobbit as Adventurous, but in this case the word fit nicely. He became a Bounder not just for the tea and free biscuits, but to travel the Shire, to meet interesting folk, and see new things.
For a while, it seemed like that might be enough.
One morning Uncle Raynald--a hunter and trapper, always the black sheep of the family--found a note pinned to his washing line:
Gone on an adventure. Please tell everybody not to worry about me.
Of course "worry" is precisely what the family did--though not everybody worried about the same things.
Freddy's sisters worried about his safety.
His brother and his father worried about the family's reputation.
His mother worried about how this might affect his prospects.
...and so forth. Cousin Rosa worried too, of course--she worried about why Fred might've left in the first place.
