Eälóthë's Journal - The Founding Of Mithlond

590th year of the First Age of the Sun - Early summer - the devastation on the land of Beleriand caused by many years of war was incredible. The whole landscape would be changed forever. In the spring what was left of the great Elven army, came pouring down along the coast where many ships were awaiting to sail back to Valinor.  One by one the great ships left Middle-earth with their cargos of tired but triumphant warriors. Great honor and a warm welcome was awaiting for them back home.

Despite missing my parents, I had settled well in the small village on the bay. The weather was gentle, the sea almost always calm. I had opened a workshop making ship repairs during the war years, and grown fond of this land which now I would call Lindon, The Land Of Music. With the end of the great war and the departure of the Host of the Valar I was invited to sail back across the sea.

Lindon was now my home, the only part of Beleriand that survived the War of Wrath, the rest of the land having been broken or submerged. The Great Sea broke through the mountain chain, just south along the coast from our village, creating what we now called the Gulf of Lhûn.

Many of the surviving Elves of Beleriand, especially the exiled Noldor, and some of us Teleri relocated to Lindon under the rule of Ereinion Gil-galad. And so the First Age of the Sun came to pass. After the last of the great Host of  the Valar had left the shores of Middle-earth I closed my workshop down , and sailed  south along the coast with Fëa Alquarámë.

Work had began on the construction of  Mithlond, the Grey Havens, a seaport on the Gulf of Lune at the mouth of the River Lhûn. When I first arrived it was still very much like a building site, but already beautiful. Its inhabitants were mostly Noldor and Teleri Elves. Fish was plentiful, and on the fields and farm-land around the town, bountiful crops of wheat, vegetables, and grapevines in the warm sunshine. This was year 1 of the Second Age of the Sun.

The sea was calm on my first night, Fëa Alquarámë was anchored in the bay. The tide was full, the moon fair upon the  river Lhûn- on the coast  of Lindon . The lights of the Elven lanterns glimmered like stars. The cliffs and small port of Mithlond were there, reflecting  in the tranquil waters.
