Memories of the past - Hunter of the dark

The dark haired child sat in her lap as she carefully braided his hair. "Will you tell me more stories of the elves of old, lady Alkawen? Please?" He peered up to her, his grey-ish blue eyes looking up to her like that of a small pup. She smiled brightly and nodded as continued to braid. "You know it is very quickly nearing your bed time, and I have already told you many tales already. It is time for little hunters to get their rest."

She smiled as she looked to the braid that just barely hung past his ear. "But I'm not sleepy! I wish to be a  great hunter, like Bard and Vorondil!" He turned around and looked to her. The elf gently brushes a strand of stray hair, smiling as she nodded to him. "You will be a great hunter, your father and mother would look down on you and smile. Instead of a story, would you like to hear a lullaby?" She asked and looked to him with a warm, loving smile. Cynraede nodded quietly and hugged her tightly, resting his head upon her chest as he listened. She slowly ran her hand through his hair as she began to quietly sing to him.

"Fear not this night

You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
Still the stars find their way

Awaken from a quiet sleep
Hear the whispering of the wind
Awaken as the silence grows
In a solitude of the night

Darkness spreads through all the land
And your weary eyes open silently
Sunsets have forsaken all
The most far off horizons

Nightmares come when shadows grow
Eyes close and heartbeats slow

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
Still the stars find their way

And you can always be strong
Lift your voice with the first light of dawn

Dawn’s just a heartbeat away
Hope’s just a sunrise away

Distant sounds of melodies
Calling through the night to your heart
Auroras, mists, and echoes dance
In the solitude of our life

Pleadings heard in arias
Gently grieving in captive misery
Darkness sings a forlorn song
Yet our hope can still rise up

Nightmares come when shadows roam
Lift your voice, lift your hope

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
Still the stars find their way

And though the night sky’s filled with blackness
Fear not, rise up, call out and take my hand

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall

Fear not this night
You will not roam astray
Though shadows fall

And you can always be strong
Lift your voice with the first light of dawn

Dawn’s just a heartbeat away
Hope’s just a sunrise away"

She smiled and looked to the now sleeping child and whispered once more to him. "Hope, is just a sunrise away."
