I reached Bree Town this day.
I knew that he would not be here, but I had hoped that I could find someone who could tell me of which direction he took upon leaving. Those few I spoke to, however, could tell me nothing.
I tried first the inn and then the lodge. As I exited the lodge, I saw an old man who I had recently seen standing in the inn. He had followed me, it seemed, but tried to say that he had not. Age he may have, but he was atrocious at lying. I tried to walk away but he followed yet again and grabbed me by the shoulder. Apparantly, he is a relative of Daigan, but I did not care. Nor did I care for his further attempts to lie to me, his refusal to let me go and his threat to throw me over his shoulder and carry me out of the town.
I eventually talked him into letting me go, but not before he accused me of rudeness. Me! I was not the one stalking young women through the dark streets of Bree!
All the same, I went on my way. Bree itself had given me no aid and thus I went on to Combe. No one there could tell me anything either.
I decided that whilst I was here I should go to see Bearn, explain to him about the harp and, since I was in the area, at least say hello to my saviour. It took me a goodly while, but myself and Arantha made it to his house with no trouble.
Unfortunately, he did not seem best pleased to see me. He was cold, distant. He offered me my old room for the night but I declined. How could I stay when he himself was so unwelcoming? It seemed to me to be more of reluctant courtsey than an gesture of hospitality to a friend.
His mannerisms bothered me and thus I asked if Selestyn would not be pleased to find that I had visited. He said that she would not, but later tried to tell me that he had not meant it that way. Either my old benefactor has suddenly lost his grasp on contextual sentences or he was lying to me. It mattered little, though. I left shortly afterwards.
I did not want to waste what little light was left to me. The sooner I find Davick, the sooner I can leave this forsaken land.
Having tried Bree, Combe and asking Bearn, I am feel that I am running out of possible leads. So far my search has proved fruitless, but I shall not give up.
