Gondamon

The Farewell at Gondamon

What kind of Adventure is this?:
Diary

I left the discussions of elves and dwarves to walk through several doors at the back of the storerooms as Frárin gave long talks on the design of the fortress. ‘Your people are no good at building defensively’ he said,  ‘much of the stone above the surface had to be completely replaced by my kin as soon as they arrived. However, the foundations are serviceable. They bind the structure above to the hill below well enough.’ So then, these were passages from the original fortress.

The Negotiations at Gondamon

The events that occurred at Gondamon have, I am sure, been well discussed by now. However the narrative of such things tend to take a life of their own, so I will attempt to outline the proceedings as I understood them. I am perhaps reluctant to include this all-to-familiar account of diplomacy between Elf and Dwarf, most of which was related secondhand upon my reaching the fortress. Yet I include it for its use in understanding the actions I took later.

A terrible marriage

Story

Far away in the iron hills, there lived an old dwarf by the name of Vitnar. Very little dwarf younglings knew him, because he withdrew easily in his home, resting and sparing his back which troubled him due age. Nonetheless, as creaky as his bones were, he was a dwarf of large stature, temperamental and war-like in his young years. He had seen many wars and conflicts, and many a foe feared his dark axe, while his black hair waved in the sky. But as fearsome as he was, he was not rude or brash.

Of the siege of Gondamon, mighty battle that strengthened the friendship between dwarves and elves.

At the little cottage in the village of Hamglen, Zavas sat long leafing through tomes that mostly had little to do with the cause of the errand that had brought a group of their company to the doorstep of the Ered Luin this forthmoon past. His thought was divided into a myriad of concerns and to set focus on a well accustomed task of the mind always helped him to arrange what was needed most at the hour. But this time it didn’t quite work.

I have wandered onto the upper parapets of Gondamon, where - I am certain - civilians are not permitted. Still, no one attempted to arrest me, and the views were worth it.

Once again I sit here and watch the sun go up over Gondamon.Eredian have finally gotten some rest, his head laying heavily in my lap, being sound asleep. It warms my heart to see him relaxed. I took the watch last night, finding it impossible to be able to sleep after what I saw today.I doubt I will ever forget the creatures that came at us after we had come across a place that not only felt eery, but also had something evil looming over it.

The view from the top of the stairs, looking out over Gondamon. I need a new piece of charcoal.
