An Unlikely Champion, Part 3, Chapter 1

What kind of Adventure is this?:
Story

A Midnight Visitor

With me daughters' consent I resumed tellin' bedtime stories about Beannaithe, the lass who were raised by an old Dwarf from age four until age fourteen. The Dwarf died not long after reunitin' the lass with her mother and the rest of her extended family. Beannaithe were heartbroken but, with the love and support of her family, she carried on.

Fairy again in all her speckled glory. Felt like drawing a half-decent head shot of her, because she's purdy and I haven't drawn horsies in quite a while.

"-see how she totters, see how she tumbles.
And see how she's rolling, all upon the salt wat-ah!"
Ameren frowned as her voice cracked and then cleared her throat.

"Branson! I'm delighted to see you again, my most timely rescuer. I hope you didn't get lost this time?"
"No, this place was easy enough to find in the daylight."
"I'm glad. Sit, sit. My father will join us shortly."

Gods, that smells delicious...
Ameren peered over the back of her mare toward the campfire. The hillmen had caught a young doe earlier that afternoon and, after days of no fire and cold food, the aroma of roasting venison was damn near intoxicating. She stood there and just stared at the rotating meat for so long that the mare grew impatient of having her grooming interrupted, snorting and giving Ameren a shove to voice her discontent.

"It's no good, damn orcs are everywhere down there," said Ameren, pulling her mare to a halt as she came closer to the cart. "If we still had the cover of rain we may have been able to slip past them, but on a beautiful day like this they'll see us coming from a mile off."

"That, right there, is the beauty in our mortality. We get to grow attached to, love, and care for that which we know we are going to end up losing no matter what we do. That is what allows us to enjoy all those things so intensely, because they are fleeting.

I made this. Quick, sloppy work, but I couldn't get the idea out of my head. Used a screengrab from the game to map out the stars.

Fairy is Ameren's varnish roan mare, given to her by the Eglain during her time in the Lone Lands. Ameren treasures the horse above all her other possessions (even the hat) and trusts her unconditionally.
