Outward Appearance

Upon looking at this old man you see long grey hair and a matching beard that is covered with tangles and dirt. Inside this mane there is a pale wrinkled face that looks rather malnourished, but it has a kind and friendly expression. His eyes are brown and have a glaze over them which often makes him look like he is lost in his own head. Those who meet him think of him as a docile old man because of the nonsense he talks. Though this does not put people off conversing with him, despite his oddities he is always friendly.

As for his clothes, it is no better. He fashions a battered leather coat that does not properly fit him, worn out boots with many holes in them, tattered fingerless gloves and an odd pointed hat. These clothes are rather mismatched and have all become a brownish colour due to his time in the wild. Inside his clothes lives many a creature: his pet rat in his coat pocket, a bird's nest in his sleeve, an ant colony that crawls up his legs and many more.

If you choose to get closer to the tramp, you will get a full whiff of his foul odour. It is a mix of body odour, mud and damp which makes him most unappealing to anyone. It is clear that this man has not washed properly in many years... if ever.

The man has very poor stature, but moves at quite a pace. He is always stooped over his seemingly rotten stick and relies heavily upon it when walking, this gives the impression of a helpless old man. Perhaps they are right, perhaps they are wrong.

Background

Little is known about Henaver Bramble, or whether that is his true name. All that people can remotely remember is when a bearded man came to Bree from The Shire area some sixty years ago. Since then this tramp has settled in the forest of Chetwood, where he can be seen talking and caring for the animals there. Those who meet him think of him as a docile old man because of the nonsense he talks. Though this does not put people off conversing with him, despite his oddities he is always friendly.

Apart from this, he makes little contact with the outer world. He can be soon occasionally limping into Bree with large sacks of crop that he takes to market, though the foul smelling stuff rarely sells. One thing that people are not sure of is his age, as he was known to have lived in the Shire many years before he wandered into Bree-land.

Sometimes if their animals are sick, people will seek out this seemingly mad vagrant to help. He is well known for guiding creatures back to health, but many find his claims that he can talk to animals to be false.

There is of course no denying that his relationships with the wild are... unusual. If ever you enter to forest you will hear a small group of robins' fly away from a nearby tree, tweeting loudly to the inner-forest. In moments you will be aware that someone is following you, as you can see an old man hiding behind the trees. From what people have learnt, he is perhaps slightly over-paranoid which makes him appear to be mad, but there is obviously more to this old man than meets the eye.
