Background
Reynaerd Foxglove looks like he is in his late thirties. A few wrinkles begin to show here and there. He has a solemn looking face that has a sense of calmness all over it. He has golden hair and a wide jaw. He looks like a very basic guy. Almost empty really...
Reynaerd is a Sergeant of the Bree Town militia. He has a group of only three men under his command, although they are only seen all togheter on rare ocasions. Most of the time the men have different errands in and around Bree-land.
Reynaerd never was one to be a glamorous hero. Only his friends, relatives and a few men of Bree who have had encounters with the law (for both good and bad reasons) know of his job as a town guard. Those who have dealings with the guards of Bree, be it for breaking the law or be it for some other buisness, might recognize him as a just Sergeant and a friendly man.
Reynaerd is often seen drinking alone in the prancing pony. He is known to come in, order a few drinks, look solemnly into his cup and leave again, almost, yet not entirely, drunk to quietly stumble across the street to his home. Yet he keeps to himself and never bothers anyone when he is drinking.
Bree-folk who have had encounters with the law for whatever reason might know that the image of the sad, drunk man doesn't fit into the picture of Reynaerd at all if you know him as a guard. When on duty he is an honest, friendly and talkative man.
When the shadow grew in Angmar, Reynaerd left his home and job behind in order to fight on the front lines as a soldier. He met the Dunedain of Evendim and the North-Downs and with them strong allies in the battles ahead. Angmar was defeated, and Reynaerd turned to home. But all was not as it seemed. Halbarad, leader of the Dunedain in the absence of their chieftain Aragorn, came to Bree one night and met Reynaerd in a corner in the Prancing Pony. He told Reynaerd that the rangers had reason to believe that Reynaerd was of their kin. He strongly resembled the ranger Aethorn, a Dunadan killed in battle long ago, and it would explain the young appearance of the already 58 year old man. Stories told by Reynaerds mother, Mary, further confirmed the suspicions.
When the Grey Company traveled east and south, Reynaerd accompanied him. Maybe it was because he felt in his heart that these men were indeed his kin, but it certainly was because it gave him purpose again. Aragorn, a man he had met and fought with before, a man that now even might be his chieftain, was in need of help. And Reynaerd would answer the call.
