Background
Aged 106 and hailing from the mountains of Ered Luin, Olfrur’s family have always been involved in the military and his own father was Guard-captain of Thorin’s Hall. Olfrur was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and thusly trained to join the guard from a tender age. After many years of rigorous training and discipline, Olfrur did not disappoint and became a fully-fledged guardsman at the young age of 68.
Olfrur oversaw many years of peace within Thorin’s Hall and eventually became his father’s lieutenant, a great honour for both him and his family. One day however, the peace of Thorin’s Hall was broken.
The Dourhands betrayed their own and allied themselves with Angmar in an attempt to bring their house glory. Thorin’s Hall was attacked by Dourhands while Olfrur fought with his fellow guards to drive them from his home and after a bitter struggle, they were successful, but at a great cost. Many of Olfrur’s comrades had been slain in the conflict, including his father, and the loss wore heavy on him.
In his father’s passing, the title of Guard-captain was granted to Olfrur and while he felt honoured, the memory of his comrades being struck down by Dourhand axes was a huge burden to bear. Olfrur captained the Guard for two years after the attack on the Hall, taking extensive measures to protect Thorin’s Hall from any other threat but eventually, Olfrur felt he could not sit idle and wait for another assault on his home any longer.
He stepped down as Guard-captain, resigned from the Guard and set out of Thorin’s Hall with his axe slung over his shoulder, swearing an oath to rid Middle-Earth of the Dourhand clan and avenge his fallen kin.
After travelling many miles across the lands of Middle-Earth, Olfrur succeeded in his quest and headed for home. Upon his return to the Hall, he was summoned by the Blue Stone Garrison. In his absence from Ered Luin, the Dourhands had gathered their strength and were marching an army of dwarves and goblins towards Gondamon. Along with other reinforcements, Olfrur travelled South, arriving at Gondamon on the eave of battle.
The siege lasted for over two weeks, every assault breaking on the walls of Gondamon like ocean waves of cliffs but still taking its toll. Finally, Dourhand army made one last effort upon the keep. The battle was harsh and many good dwarves were slain but the Dourhand army was eventually routed and retreated.
Olfrur was hailed as a hero for his efforts and was bestowed the title of Gondamon Siege-breaker but he knew the war was not yet over. The Dourhands had fled into the ruins of Sarnur and left unchallenged, would simply recuperate. The time had come to rid Middle-Earth of the Dourhands once and for all.
Olfrur slung his axe over his shoulder once more and made towards Sarnur. The caverns rang with the sound of battle from Noon to nightfall until they fell completely silent. Olfrur emerged into the cold night air, his armour covered in blood and dented all over. Despite his injuries, Olfrur had a smile on his face, His home was safe and oath fulfilled.
