| Outward Appearance | Colart stands at five feet eleven inches, although a wide girth makes him seem even more looming than he truly is. His skin tone, darker than is typical for a man of the Bree-Lands, is a testament to his mother's homeland of Dale. He has a broad nose and a thick black beard flecked with wiry grey. His head, however, he keeps shaved -- a bald spot appeared when he was younger, and some small amount of vanity caused him to shave all of the hair atop his head. When it's cold outside he wears a hat and muff but in the warmer weather he prefers to go bare headed.

Background
Colart is the son of Tancreta and Gudram, a happy enough couple despite their differences. Tancreta had grown up in Mirkwood, the daughter of a weaver and a merchant from Dale. She had followed in her father's footsteps, bringing well carved items out of Dale for sale as far as Bree, until she met Gudram. He was one of the woodsmen of the Chetwood, providing the nearby settlements with lumber and pelts and the occasional meat. He had ventured into Bree to sell some particularly fine specimens of wolf pelts, and of course had spent the night at The Prancing Pony. The two fell for one another quickly, and before even returning to Dale she married him.
This arrangement proved to be beneficial, as she had many connections she used to sell his wares farther afield than he might otherwise been able to, and he was able to stay home more often, whittling crude furniture and tools.
They had three children: Colart. Onlaf, and Arilda.
Arilda married a local man by the name of Herrold, who worked with the apothecary, and soon enough they welcomed into their home a daughter by the name of Ellerie. But when Ellerie was only two her father was gored by a wild boar while picking wild bilberries. Arilda was devestated, and shortly thereafter joined up with the brigands who had always lurked about the ruins outside of town.
Colart and his brother Onlaf helped to raise the girl after Arilda’s defection, teaching her to wield an axe and a knife. Eventually Onlaf left for Bree to join the town guard, in order to impress the woman he loved, Nonnie Weaver.
After the Blackwold attacks Colart and Ellerie have been staying at the Comb and Wattle Inn in Combe, and searching for any clues of Arilda’s whereabouts. Nobody found her body after the attack on Archet, and there are still so many brigands about that surely they will find her somehow…
and maybe she will renounce her lawless ways.
