Ebold the Undying, of Minhiriath & Cardolan, Captain of the Bloody Dawn.

This picture resembles Ebold greatly (excluding the axe). It was created by a talented deviantart user named Karehb, and all credit goes to him.

Race/Ethnicity: Man of Minhiriath.

Skin Tone: Caucasian.

Height: 6’2”, 188cm

Build: Muscular, naturally a large frame. Particularly large shoulders and legs.

Eyes: Jade green.

Hair: Ebold sports dark brown, somewhat messy hair, with a thick but fairly well-kempt beard. More recently he has began to better look after his hair and beard.

Tattoos, Piercings, Marks, Scars, etc.: Though it mostly refers to the accomplishment of outliving so many of his comrades, Ebold's epithet 'the Undying' partly refers to his ability to withstand many injuries. Indeed, this can be seen in a great assortment of scars and also burns across his body. Most prominent are large scratches from wargs across his lower back, and lighter scratches on his upper back from merrevail claws. Besides his scars, there is a large birthmark on the back of his left wrist.

Appearance: Ebold's apperance is rather characteristic of the folk of Eryn Vorn, his homeland, but as they are a little-known people he instead resembles a somewhat tall Bree-Lander or an unusually pale Dunlending. His face features high cheekbones, a low brow, and a wide nose.

Outfits: Ebold is very recognisable when wearing his armour, which includes a klappvisor bascinet that would completely cover his face when the visor was not raised. His body protection consists of a long gambeson and chainmail, with a thick chainmail mantle that exaggerates the size of his shoulders. Most of this mail and armour is worn beneath a long, grey cotton coat. The complete outfit matches despite no pieces sharing the same origin. The helmet, for example, was forged in Dale several years ago, meanwhile his chainmail hauberk was crafted in Lebennin. The collection of leather belts worn with his armour were crafted for him by the woodmen of Mirkwood as a reward for putting an end to a local troll problem.

A more recent addition to his wardrobe is his finery; a burgundy doublet with gold lining which, despite fitting him well, was actually tailored for an old friend. Sometimes Ebold would also wear a similarly coloured cape depicting a tree across his left shoulder. Naturally, this cape was not made for him either, having once belonged to his own comrade Solerius of the Towers. This attire is usually worn for formal events, professional business and meetings with the mayor and his councillors.

Finally, the rest of the time Ebold wears a simple red shirt with plain cotton trousers. Nothing of this outfit is particularly interesting.

Background

Education: Basic literacy taught before the age of 16, although in his travels across Middle-Earth, especially in his time within Gondor, Ebold became rather scholarly and has a brilliant understanding of history and geography.

Languages spoken: He is fluent in Westron, but also has a very rough understanding of Dunland's tongue.

Weapons (if any): Ebold carries a large, heavy zweihander, crafted at a small Gondorian village in the Havens of Belfalas. Ebold is especially proud of the sword, which he calls Reaper; namely because it holds the disputable title of Bree's biggest sword. It is very well crafted, and the man also keeps his sword in the best condition possible. A small Gondorian styled dagger is kept at his belt, although it is mostly used as a tool instead of a weapon. When Ebold is seen wearing a backpack, he will also have a crossbow, hatchet and traps in his possession.

Occupation(s): Ebold was previously a monster-hunting specialist in the employ of the Bloody Dawn, and was independent before that, but has since succeeded Laayla as the 7th captain of the company.

Special Abilities/Skills: He is able to survive almost any wound, and can continue to fight competently even when most would be defeated; this is how he has earned his title. Ebold has extensive expertise in slaying monsters of all kinds and understands much about their behavior as much as hunting tactics.

Serious Problems/Flaws/Addictions/Disorders/Disabilities: Ebold’s vision is very limited, and his perception of something’s distance is often wrong. As such, he quite often misses an attack, despite the great size of his sword. His movement is also notably slow, for his right foot is terribly damaged and the equipment always carried alongside him is generally very heavy. Ebold is also relatively self-centred, but tries to hide his ego beneath cynisism.

Combat Style: Ebold often goes into combat with a seemingly careless approach, not cautious, warmed up or typically with planning. He wields a large zweihander named Reaper, which is always with him and carried by the pommel, resting the blade on his shoulder. He moves slowly with his sword, watching his surroundings as much as his opponent, and tends to adopt defensive stances and guards. He is able to parry melee attacks very efficiently, though melee attacks are essentially his weakness, as projectiles rarely penetrate his armour.

His slow movement is rarely compensated for by any ranged weaponry, but he will wield and carry a crossbow if traveling or anticipating a fight with a drake, morroval or other flying creature.

Ebold's unique expertise regards hunting monsters and great beasts. He was apprenticed in this art, and his kinsmen's strategies have been developed through decades of research, experience, and trial and error.
