From north of Bree, Estenthêl takes her work seriously whether it is taking care of the home  or out trying to keep up with the Kingsfell farmers. While she seems uptight and by the book most of the time, she does have a sense of humor, especially around her younger sister, Laindis.
She prefers to avoid Bree, not liking the constant stealing and fighting that goes on.

Estenthêl helped her father raise her younger sister. That often meant tying the girl to a tree so she could tell their father. Her knots are not well made though... Her patience with her runs thin when Laindis acts younger and more carefree, but Estenthêl would do anything to protect her sister.

She has the faintest memory of her mother, who died when she was three.

Some of the other Rangers have called her Short Spear (Esten= Short, Thela= point of spear), in play of meanings within her name. While it was not intentional, Estenthêl does carry javelins instead of a bow and arrows.

Wise beyond her years the north-woman is,
young midwife, watcher, healer too,
and soon, to her man, she will be bride,
and him between her duties must she her time divide,
treating flesh and bringing life anew,
a special bond to have for any of our kin,
with a grateful bridegroom-man at home within
