A new start?

Entry Two!

A new start?

Well, it's been a few days since I wrote in this thing, and I don't know if i'll have enough room to write down everything that's happened. To start off, I suppose i'll chronicle my tiny little trip to Edstan's house in Thorin's Hall. I never did ask him why he chose to live in a mountain. Actually, I think I did. I can't remember. Anyways, I arrived there and figured it would take half the day just to figure out what district he lived in. A rather helpful dwarf named..something..helped me narrow it down to the one he was actually living at. I simply asked the dwarf if he knew of a loud, handsome man who was rarely home, and he pointed me off into a rather empty-looking district.

I arrived, quickly noticing how bland the entire 'district' looked. It was a terrible blur of dark grey stone, and warm light from the occasional torch. I wandered around for a bit, slightly nervous. It was in a cave, after all. Who lives in caves? Well, dwarves, but that's besides the point! I looked at a few houses, trying to figure out which one was Edstan's. I eventually reached the end of the rather ugly little stone path, and saw some sort of giant..hourglass.. in the yard. I had found Edstan's house, I just knew it.

Now, don't be cross with me mother, because Edstan said it didn't really count as breaking and entering, since we knew each other. I took the locker-picker thing and recited all the little steps the rude man taught me. Much to my suprise, the lock actually clicked, and I stepped inside to one of the strangest households i've ever seen.  The house was in utter chaos. Colors clashed, dirt covered the walls, and there wasn't even a proper bed! He later informed me that he slept on a old, smelly rug. I quickly looked around, realizing that I had a chance to find something interesting of his.

I stepped inside a room to my right, before instantly fixing my gaze upon this weird..tentacle thing..in a barrel. For a second, I thought Edstan was some sort of tentacle-monster. It seemed to be dead, and it didn't smell bad, so I entered the room, and quickly went to his 'mirror'. The stupid thing was smashed, and I couldn't even see myself in it! How was I supposed to fix my hair in a shattered, ugly, stupid mirror? I could write about that dreadful thing for an entire night, so i'll end that there. As I was trying to think of a way to break the already-broken mirror, Edstan nearly yelled from behind me. I jumped, before quickly turning around to explain to him that I wasn't some sort of dwarven thief. As I should have expected, I couldn't speak once I saw him. I don't know why it happens, but I hate it. It makes me feel so stupid. I sat there for a moment, staring at him, with my mouth wide open in suprise.

He finally remarked about my dress, and I nearly fainted. I quickly recovered, and told myself to not act like a complete moron everytime he opened his mouth. I think it worked. I babbled on about how I didn't steal anything, and was just curious. He asked me how I actually managed to find his house, and I told him about the helpful dwarf. He didn't seem mad, thankfully, and i'd like to think he was actually kind of impressed. I paced around his house for awhile after that, asking him trivial questions to pass the time. Truthfully, I just wanted to talk to him. He told me about the tentacle monster thing, which he actually killed! Isn't that amazing? Maybe he let the remaining parts of the monster live in his house, as a show of goodwill? I'll need to ask him.

Now, mother, this next bit would surely not earn your approval, so I won't even bother to write about it! After...nothing...happened, the subject of him travelling once more came up. I regained my sanity long enough to question him intelligently. Well, I thought it was intelligent. I asked him if he could imagine how nice it would be if we just left, and travelled anywhere together, with nothing infront of us but middle earth. We could do whatever we wanted, whenever and with whoever! This next part is the most exciting, Ma, because he actually said he would think on it! Can you believe it? I had to hide the huge grin on my face. I decided to not question him about it, for fear he would change his mind.

So! After we laid did nothing interesting, we were both pretty tired. I truthfully didn't want to hire a guide to take me back all the way here. Thankfully he let me sleep on that disgusting old 'rug'. It's more of a slab of filth then a rug, if you ask me. Well, the next bit was a tad awkward. We awoke, and I fancied myself up the best I could with the limited supplies I had on hand. I stole one of his hair ties, too. He was somehow already all geared up for his travelling. The familiar sadness that always creeps up on me when he leaves returned, as we silently walked through the district to the entrance. Upon reaching the entrance, he mumbled something about not following him this time. I seriously thought about following him, just to see what he would do. I decided against it, and mumbled a response. The next thing he said made me rather sad, i'm ashamed to say. He said something like: "The next time we meet won't be so soon blahblahblah." I was too busy staring at him to pay much attention to what he was saying.

In conclusion, I learned a bit more about Edstan, spent a lovely night doing..nothing..and most importantly, increased my chances of one day travelling with him. My hand is hurting, and i'm quite sleepy. I think i'll end it here.

Goodnight, mother.
