Letter To Renif

[ The letter is crumpled round the edges, and the handwriting is thin and spidery. It was obviously written hastily.]

Black-Beard,

I hope you are well. Forgive me for using your old nickname, for I know you dislike it. But I'm wary that this letter falls into the wrong hands. I do not wish outside ears to know of Aughaire's weakness at this moment in time.

I know, before you last left us, that I said we would not be in need of your aid again, that you could rest easy that you would never have to spend another night in Angmar, but Aughaire is in dire need of help. I understand that you wish to settle down, to end your days as an adventurer, and I would not ask if this weren't important.

The threat of the False King grows grows ever stronger. Our people are losing hope. Our hunting parties are assaulted by bands of angmarim almost every day. They are steadily advancing nearer and nearer to Aughaire. We fear an all-out assault on the village.

You know the lay of the land Renif, and you have done battle with the creatures and enemies of Angmar. I believe you are feared among our enemies. If you were to reappear, to fight for our cause once more, our enemies may falter in their constant attacks. We need you. Please reply soon.

I'm sorry to have to drag you back into this sordid mess, friend. I fear this time, you will be gone from Bree for more than a couple of months. I suggest you tie up any loose ends before departing, say goodbye to those you care for.

Your ever faithful friend,

Dog-Ear.
