Pain Dru-out The Night

Dru cried out in pain, curling into a ball around herself. Her body was drenched in sweat which in turn caused her tunic and the one blanket she hadn't kicked off, to cling to her uncomfortably.

She tried to take slow, deep breaths, but couldn't control her hyperventilation.
Mahnik. His name pierced through her mind. She could see his crazed eyes.
Scalpels. Insects beneath her skin. Fish hooks. She could still feel the after-affects, as if her dream was real. As if all of it had happened again.

Her wrists, cheek and abdomen still hurt. Memory of pain was unforgiving to her as it coursed through her body. She didn't relive her final escape. Only the torture of both captures. The fear. The pain. Such pain.

"No! No no no!" She shrieked into her legs as she rocked herself. Nobody lived near enough to even begin to hear her, and so she was safe with the secret of her own weakness. Nobody. Nobody could see her cry. To see her so broken. To see her pain. Her walls were built, and she would not let them break.

The dreams played through her head in a seemingly endless loop. Instead of simply seeing Stitches, she saw every face of those she wished to protect the most. It was as if her memory was telling her of how she would fail.

The worst part of all of this was not the pain of torture...but knowing she, Dru, was the one who would be her friend's downfall.
