Bugger! Bugger, bugger, bugger!
So I order me meal, beef stew, bread, butter, cheese and half a pint of ale. A lad says hello to me, but in truth I were thinking more on the rumbling of my tummy to say more than a hello back! It were lovely too, I think he puts ale in it, the broth were rich yet didn't stop me bread from breaking off into it, just my luck, getting all distracted and that.
Next thing I know this older lad sits opposite me. Looks a bit worse for wear but still, pretty and them eyes? Well! We talked a bit and it happens he be a former guard of the town. Wants to know what I do for a living, so I tell him and who knows? Might be selling a few more cups, so that'll please Old Flo, though he didn't want flowers painted on his. He then asks me if I'll go for a walk patrolling with him. I had to go home anyway given how late it were so I said yes. Offers me his arm, polite and all. So we be walking around the town and nothing is happening, no robberies, no fights, he then asks me about me age. Lad seems to have a fair sense of humour too and I got a few smiles out of him.
We end up by this lake outside the south gates, still talking and all, and he does tease me a bit about how I have things to learn when it comes to lads flirting, though before I know it and out of the blue, he plants a kiss to me lips! Just like that! I didn't know where to look, I just froze, like a rabbit who has suddenly been spotted. Then he apologised. It were a bit uncomfy, I mean he'd only just met me! He were telling himself off, what with being about twice me age apparently, how he got carried away, though I told him not to worry and all, then I thought it best I take me leave. I'm all for kisses and the like, but I mean, I still have someone I think, providing he ain't been sucked up in the jaws of Rue or lost in the sea. I got his name, he were lovely too, in a rough sort of way, and I ain't the one to be worrying about age and all, providing it ain't a kiddie trying to chase me! I hope he isn't feeling bad about what happened, that would be sad.
I need to talk to someone about all that's been going on the past few days. Not Ma, what I tell Ma ends up back to Pa, no no, someone else. Not you Alys if you be sneaking another look! Butterbur, I can see it now, all folk talk to a innkeeper about their woes, though I can't see him wanting to speak of lads. No..someone else.
