Of love and family

"There you are!"
-"Please go away. I'm busy."
"You're always busy and I'm bored."
-"Then go somewhere else. I'm-"
"Busy. Yeah, yeah, you already said. This seat taken?"
-"No but-..."
"Great!"
- sigh "What do you want Marcus?"
"Do I need a reason to spend time with my big brother?"
-"Yes. Can't you see I'm busy?"
"You're rummaging around in a chicken's innards. You're not that busy."
-"I'm not just rummaging around i-"
"You won't believe the day I've had!"
-"And I don't really-"
"Do you remember that girl down the street?"
-"No."
"Sure you do. Think you even fancied her a month back or something. The one with the golden hair and pretty smile. You know who I'm talking about, Guluin! The weaver's daughter."
-"Yes... I remember her."
"Well, I think you should be glad that you dodged that wreck."
-"What do you mean? You've been...?"
"Of course. When you kept ignoring her-"
-"I didn't ignore her, I just-"
"Her attention turned my way. Not that I mind, I mean, you've seen her. So we've been getting to know each other. Been good fun, a lot of good fun."
-"Don't go into details on that."
"Oh, come on! Should know what you missed! But fine, fine. Anyway, she started talking about settling down and what not. Bit too soon, don't you agree?"
-"Maybe a little, yes."
"So you can see why I decided to stop this relationship, yeah?"
-"I don't really-..."
"She goes insane, I tell you! Started to threaten to hurt herself and I don't know what. Goes on and on how she needs me to be with her, how she won't be able to be happy and keeps on guilting me for trying to end it before she starts expecting something I'm not ready for. Can you believe this?"
-"Yes, you've told me very similar things before with other women."
"I swear, I think most of them are after father's money. You don't go around as the doctor of nobility without having people whisper about your wealth. Has enough mothers pushing their daughters our-, well, my way at least."
-"I haven't heard you complain about it before. You seem to enjoy the attention of women, Marcus."
"And I do, I do. Just annoying when they start with that stuff. Mom did warn me for a reason about these girls. A blessing for you, I reckon."
-"What do you mean?"
"I mean that you are as cold as the winter frost, Elias. Can brush off any crying woman without thinking twice. Mom's actually worried about you. Should spend more time with her. Don't tell her I said this to you but she feels like you're a stranger or even a ghost in her house."
-"She told you this?"
"She did. Why I think you should go talk to her, spend some time with her. A mother shouldn't feel like her own child is a stranger."
-"I suppose."
"No, not suppose. You'll do it. Right now you could be spending time with her but instead you are digging around in a dead chi-... By the heavens! Elias!? Is that chicken's heart still beating? How!? What damn black magic are you preforming here?!"
-"It's not magic, you imbecile. It's just an experiment."
"Just an experiment? That chicken is still alive and you have its whole body open and your fingers in it! How is that even possible!?"
-"Through a lot of studying, Marcus. After me and father found that sleep potion, I've managed to do much more. The body sleeps and feels no pain and I'm able to look at how things work."
"But why do you even want to? This is...Ugh, I think I'm going to be sick."
-"Because, this opens up the opportunity for us to be able to cut away the diseases we can't see until the patient is already dead... If you're going to be sick, please leave."
"There's something terribly wrong with you Elias. You know that, right?"
-"Yes."
"Well... At least if you fail, we'll have dinner."
