I attended miss Winkle's gathering. It was surprisingly pleasant, even if I believe I was overdressed for the occasion. At least, I'll not have to worry about formal wear should I be invited somewhere again.
There were only a few faces I was familiar with there. By miss Rushwood's request, I sat with her. She has a bizarre taste in food, that's one thing I learned. I asked to taste the cake she had gotten and was it one of the worst cakes I've ever had the displeasure of tasting. How anyone managed to get it down is beyond me.
Strangely enough, people seemed to have brought miss Winkle gifts, despite her asking them not to do so. Makes me wonder if I should have brought one of my own. If this was some reverse message that I wasn't aware of.
I did give her a token of my thanks,a three-coloured rose. I'm glad I had enough time to make one. She seemed very happy with it, called it magic. I'll have to show her that there's no magic to this.
The hobbit was kind enough to give me a gift, as odd as I still find it. A collection of fine bottles. I'm not sure how I'm going to repay her for this.
It's a pity I couldn't stay to see what she had gotten all the others, when she showed how much thought and care was taken into choosing these presents. Miss Rushwood mentioned a wagon heading back to Knotwood, it spared me a long walk in the rain.
I'll wait until miss Winkle comes to visit and hear all about it then.
