Father,
I am certain that by now you are aware that I am alive and well.
I know we have not spoken in over four years. I deeply regret this, and would like to beg for your forgiveness.
I was quite unaware of how much time had passed when I awoke, and I went straight to my Thane to report for duty, as I felt I was bound to. But I was denied entry.
I admit to… a certain degree of shame, as I believed…. I believed that my taking of the arrow constituted a failure to perform my duties. And I was afraid to face you, father.
So, I fled. I rode northeast, and I fell off my horse near Bree. I woke up in the Prancing Pony…. Only then did I find out how long it had been. But my wound had reopened, and I could hardly return.
Then I met this most…. Amazing woman. Her name is Brynleigh, and she is recently widowed. It anguishes me that I have grown to love her over the time I have spent here, for her heart is delicate, and still longs for that which is lost to her. I have made it my personal duty to guard her, and help her recover as best as I can, but I have… had some pitfalls along the way.
I grow sidetracked. Miss Brynleigh invited me to stay in her village, a lovely town called Hookworth, southeast of Bree. Since I have regained my strength, I have bought a house in town, and am serving as the village’s carpenter. I intend to stay here, father, and make a new start for myself. All I had was the Thane’s guard, which is forever lost to me now.
I hope this reaches you well, and I hope that you can forgive me for the actions I have taken.
With much love
