An elf was looking out od window at the harbor. There was only one slender white ship anchored there. The sea was calm and waves gently rocked the ship. The elf was looking at the ship and thinking about something. She looked worried, sad and greatly tired. Her sorrow made her eyes watery and pain could be observed in expression of her face.
"This ship is going to carry me away from here. This meant to be place where we ought to be free. Yet we found here only pain and despair. All as there Valar worn us before departure of our forefathers from blessed lands of Valinor. We had paid dear price for this venture. Freedom they sought we purchased we our own lifes and loss of most of the fair we once built. I just can't bear this attonment anymore. I don't have strength to carry on. There is nothing here to fill me heart with joy anymore. This ship is going to carry me West, to the home I never knew."
She stepped out of window as the light breeze was getting cold and sat at the fireplace with small flickering fire. She huddled her body in warm traveling cloak, sighed and broke out in tears.
"Father you promised us, Amreth and me, that we will never loose one another. I still remember your words:I AM GIVING YOU THIS TWO PEDANTS AS THERE IS SAID THAT THEY WILL GLOW WHEN ITS COUNTERPART WAS NEAR WERE YOU LINGER AND IT MAY EVEN GRANT YOU A VISION OF ITS OWNER AT TIMES. I haven't had a vision of Amreth since she was lost. What a paradox. It's ought to work and show me the way where to look for my sister. The same as always did. What terrible evil had to happen to you that i am no longer able to trace you dear sister?"
An elf wiped her eyes with silk like cloth and looked at the fire swirling around a log in the fire place.
"Amreth, oh how I miss you. You were the last of my kin and now you are lost. Lost and never to be found despite of our father's gift. How useless this pedant is?! Amreth my sister you were always the bold one. Why did you have to go for this cursed scouting party? Now look at me. I am here alone. Last of our house. Our parents Amardil and Ardwen perished in last great battle against the Enemy and lay somewhere in the marches of Dagorlad. And now you are lost too.
I was looking for you everywhere with father's gift but it's hard to look for someone if you know only destination but not direction of path. There was no vision nor single spark of light from pedant. What possibly could happen to you on your journey? I have searched and waited for some many bitter years with no trace of you. Forgive me Amreth, my heart cannot withstand this pain any longer."
Sudden knocking on the door brought the elf from her despair to reality. She looked at the door and remained motionless. The knocking repeated . Now it was harder and louder. Someone spoke loudly behind the door: "Andreth, it's me Gildor. I am sorry to disturb you in you last day here but I have something greatly important to show you before you depart to the West. You must see this!!"
Andreath stood up and hastely moved to the door. When Andreth opened the door she saw fair looking elf holding small wooden box in his hand. "Come in Gildor. I believed we said our farewell in Riverdell? What brought you here? What is it in your hand?"
Gildor come in nad put the small wooden box in the middle of the table. Andreth leaned over it and pedant on her neck came faintly to life. It gave small flicker of silver light and then again until it shone in constant bright light. Andreth looked at Gildor and he nodded.
