At the Prancing pony today, I ran into several of the occupants I met last night. Chief amongst the was a man in a hood and grey cloak, and a young local lass. The man had me stumped. He was a mysterious figure to be sure, and he had my curiosity at an all high right until about an hour ago. The captain has just informed me he is also a Ranger, one of many operating in Bree-land at present. He has his own operations however, and is unaware of mine.
My mark was also in the Prancing pony today, I’m sure of it. Which means he was there the other night when I made a point of telling every patron present of my affiliation with the Rangers. When I went back today, I met the lass again. It became obvious to her that I was up to something. She is certainly more perceptive than most, but then I am fairly certain I was doing a poor job of discretion.
Instead I used this to my advantage. I don’t like the idea of using a citizen of Bree or a fellow Ranger to achieve my ends, but it is starting to seem like the only option. This hooded man has people watching me, and the girl will hopefully spread word of my ‘skulking’, as she put it, to her friends in town. With any luck, the mark will think I’m here for him and make his move - where Aeowulf and Treinir will be waiting for him. It had best happen soon though: I fear I’m outstaying my welcome.
