Captain's Special Report: Yule, Hobbits, Dwarves, and Biscuity Burrows!

Indeed a special report that is!  For nearly closed hence was the door to my office, here at the Bree Captain's Guild, and soon on my way to Yule celebrations happening on the 'morrow, when suddenly a letter arrived!

Upon my desk it lay, and from within seemed to be heard (at least to mine ears) faint musical melodies, yet beckoning forth a vivid yuletide imagination.

And what great wonders did greet my eyes!  Upon unfolding the parchments and perusing what had been sent -- my joy could not be contained, nor my laughter kept hidden at times, in those moments spent reading, or was it watching, what was before me.

It was a 'grand yule drawing', and while looking upon it, there seemed to be drawings, paintings, and sketches all together that moved before my very own eyes, telling a sort of story, beginning with the complaint of too little (or more like none) snowfall in the Shire-bounds to truly celebrate the Yule season; then giving way to a scene of many Hobbits arriving at the fabled Thorin's Gate, whom are greeted by welcoming Dwarves.  There are celebrations, and moments of cheer gathered around warm fires; with dancing, and even a glimpse of the entire company playing instruments, in numbers which could only be summarized as a symphony.

And all throughout, there was this humming of tunes within my mind which seemed to accompany the every moment of this letter, or rather yule drawing.  What a marvellous thing!

I quickly sat back down at my desk here to write this report, and opened several tomes and old parchments of research from a nearby shelf.  It was a Miss Lina responsible for this strange but wonderful drawing, and no stranger to one another were they, as it would appear. From what is deemed the 'Biscuity Burrow', Miss Lina has published many such 'moving drawings' that depict Hobbit life and culture -- many of which are cited as being created with the help of many folk from across the Shire-bounds every year.

Master Reader, the hour grows late, but should you be reading this on the morning of Yule, then allow me to leave you with directions to the Grand Order of the Lost Mathom, where you may find -- especially should you be a Hobbit in search of good company -- a noticeboard posting that is said to wish upon ye a warm burrow with happiness and more on this day of merry Yule.

I must now end this report, and close the doors to my office for the next few days of merriment, perhaps already beginning to take place this very hour, across the land.  There's even a 'Yule feast at Briar Rose Cottage', in the later days -- just northwest of Bree-town.
