I was in the Pony when I met Eddrick Madden, a giant of a man, unkempt, uneducated and uninspired. He was ideal for the work that was planned. I approached him, and as expected he came across as a gruff brute with a foul temper. Through questioning it came out that he was a blacksmith, and that his business was failing. It also seemed that in terms of combat experience, he claimed to have only been in a few brawls in his youth, though I suspect there may be more competent than he lets on. Unfortunately I was unable to approach him over employment on this day due to prying ears.
I was able to meet with Madden on another day, coincidentally on the day that his practice collapsed under him. He was dejected at this time, desperate I would even say. I expected that he would not turn down an offer for employment, despite the concerns he made known over taking part in illegal activities. I told him that his employment would be to combat the smaller criminals of Bree. by rhe time he understands the full truth of the Network, he will be in too deep to back out. He may even come to embrace it, but only time will tell this. I do not suspect him to be a plant. The Network has not made its actions known to the law, so they would have no need or knowledge to do so.
Steel and coin is king.
