Revenge and Business

I couldn't believe my eyes. I'd spend days looking for them, and weeks expecting them to appear by chance, and finally, here they were. Stood outside the Pony were Shemm and Ewley, the rats who had attacked me and Roystan. It didn't take me long to decide what to do here.

The pair of them seemed to be going through the letterbox outside of the pony, but that was of no concern to me. I'd had a bad few days and I was out for blood. The rat-like one, Shemm saw me approaching them first. As expected the cocky fool began flinging his words at me while the stupid one looked on. Unlike last time, I decided to give them no warning. I charged Ewley first, slamming him into the box, knocking the wind out of him. Shemm to his chance to take a swing at me, but did more damage to himself than me. This scrapping went on as onlookers jeered and laughed at the pair of them. They didn't seem to be popular with the locals, but I didn't care much about that. Both had taken a beating and myself a few blows as well when Shemm drew his blade.

I was beginning to enjoy the challenge of the fight and I drew my hammer, planning to break his knuckles. This was when some of the men that were watching decided to get involved in out business. One took a kick at Shemm while I saw another beating Ewley while he was on the ground. I must say I wasn't happy with this situation. This fight was a personal matter between me and these fools, but these complete strangers just had to join in. From what I heard from the crowd, people seemed to think I had attacked them over their robbing the post, but that was far from the case.

In the end someone had made an attempt to stop Shemm with a knife to the throat while another was beating hell into an unconscious Ewley. This wasn't what I'd wanted, and in the end I told the strangers to let Shemm go. In the confusion and chatter of the crowd, I pulled Shemm to one side and told him I'd help to move Ewley out of the street. He silently agreed, just as some girl from the watch showed up. The crowd pointed fingers at the pair for the fight and the post box, but she let us carry him off to a healer. She must have been new to the job to let us go, but there you have it.

I helped get an unconscious Ewley to beggars alley. Shemm and I talked and decided thing between us were now equal. They'd robbed my ally and I'd beaten them accordingly. As I looked at the two of them, I decided that I still didn't really like them. One was a drunken fool and the other a cocky slime, but they may be of use to me and my work. I spoke to Shemm about some potential work and he seemed to agree with the idea. I left them to tend to their wounds, and I felt this had been time well spent.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of taking the road that lead to the jail. I saw the watcher from earlier, and she had me go with her to the jail so she could write her report. It was there that I saw Danwick, moody as ever. They took my statement about the fight, it appeared that they didn't realize I had actually started the fight. They seemed to think I had just watched it. They asked where the other two were, so I lied and told them near the east gate. I doubt they believed me, but it wasn't like I was going to tell them the truth.

I said the whole incident had been a big misunderstanding from what I saw, and nearly made it out of there until some stranger let slip I had been in the fight. Danwick jumped on this information like some starving cat, and tried to have me arrested for withholding information. He even tried to throw in the bar fight to get me locked up! I was furious, and admittedly I lost my calm somewhat, yelling at the pair of them. I was lucky that Corrben showed up when he did. After a while he decided to let me go with a warning. I must say I was suprised by this, after all I was guilty as sin of the charges. I think that Corrben may be someone worth looking into at a later date. In the mean time I was already making plans for Danwick as  I left, he tried too hard to have me locked up, and he attacked my in the pony. I was going to make an example of him.
