A Fine Greeting to Bree

I'd only been in Bree for a few days, and quite frankly I was beginning to feel good about my situation. I'd met that strange girl Ellynore on the road, and the downright odd Roystan the day, and I was beginning to feel like perhaps I'd done right to come down here. That was till this day at least. I'd met Roystan for a drink after a long day. It was pleasant enough, or as much it could be with that man. He's so bloody distant he may as well be a ghost. He took his leave after a while, and I decided to follow suit, drinking alone is never a good plan.

It was when I left the Pony that I saw Roystan hadn't got far from the pub, and had gotten himself into a bloody fight at that! He was stood between a woman and two men, damn fool. You could tell by his speech and posture he wasn't a fighter, and the two men looked like they at least had some experience. I didn't feel like I could really leave him to a beating, so I went to join him, see what was going on.

As I went to stand by him, I decided that I disliked these two strangers. Greasy looking character they were. The kind you don't want hanging around, petty criminals, and cocky ones at that have had a couple of successes and need knocking into place. I asked Roystan what was going on, and from what I understood from his words and the jeers from the other two, it seemed that Roystan had gone to make these two leave the woman alone. Damn fool picking fights. As they talked it turned out their names were Shemm and Ewley. They took an instant dislike to me as I had to them, though theirs was much more vocal. As they threw their insults and Roystan did his high and mighty act, I got more tired of the whole situation.

It was when Ewley decided to take a piss in the street as he stood higher than us that I'd had enough. As he started to finish, I went up to him and cracked him square in the ribs. As expected, they didn't think I'd do anything despite my warning, and so were taken by suprise. Ewley When down after that, and the other, Shemm drew a knife on me. I did the same and charged him. He may look like a greasy rat, but he had enough sense to keep moving, was was fast at it as well. While we fought, Roystan finally joined in, wrapping his damn scarf around Ewlely's eyes of all things! I drew blood from Shemm's leg after a while, he didn't seem too pleased about it.

He got in a lucky kick  that sent me stumbling, giving him chance to get behind Roystan and have his blade up against his neck. Roystan let Ewley go and he stumbled up to his feet. I decided he defiantly wasn't the brains of this spineless pair. Shemm] told me to drop my knife, but I was having none of that. After all I questioned, if I do that, what's to stop you killing him anyway?

The pair seemed to have had enough of the situation, [[Shemm cut Roystan's coin pouch from his belt and made a run for it, shoving Roystan into my path. It was pure luck I didn't stab him right there, and we both ended up sprawled on the floor. Later, some useless watcher came and took details, but he was no use. Anyway, this was personal, and I didn't want the law getting to that filth before I found them.

My original thoughts of starting again had gone. How was I meant to start again when I was to be plagued by thugs like that? No, I was going to do what I'd been sent to after all. I was going to Bring them to heel, and all others like them. I was going to bring order, proper order to this wretched town.
