The scent of the sea (an excerpt from Jelthian's journal)

Aeri my dear, it has been two years since we met now - and i still spend every waking minute thinking of you.

This place is so different from home. I can hear the seagulls singing their song when I wake up every morning. I look out of my window and as long as my eyes can see there is only water, like a silvery mirror. Oh and my room, you would love it! Creaking floorboards, and on top a beautiful carpet. Sometimes i sit in my chair watching it, losing myself in the endless patterns of the fabric. The sheets of my bed are so soft, and there are the most spectacular rustic decorations on the walls; driftwood, animal skulls and religious icons. Whenever I enter I get calm. How I wish you were here to share it with me.

The atmosphere is completely different here, nothing like the cold slow townlife up north. There is a certain vibrance to the people on the street. All the different scents and sounds intoxicates me. Mongers and fishermen everywhere. Large sacks of spices. Clothing of all the colors of the rainbow. Oh, you would love the clothes here so much! There is satin and silk both!

Yesterday the patriarch summoned me to his palace, offering me a job. I turned him down, but it wasn't easy, he offered me a lot of good coin. But I could never work for a man like him, the way he treats his people. I've had some smaller jobs but it's hard to make ends meet. If only you were still with me, you would tell me what do. Guide me, like you always used to do.

I'll never forget them for separating us. You should here at my side, not in the cold wet ground. You don't belong there, Aeri.
