The First Letter from Imladris

Ada,

I write this first letter to assure you of my safe arrival in Imladris. I miss you all and the sea already, but I have resolved myself to be quite brave in this whole affair, as it was, after all, my choice. They valley's loud streams will be some measure of comfort, though.

Tomorrow, I shall rise early and set out to make my first delivery! Worry not, I will also remember my promise to you and carry myself to Lord Elrond's renowned library in search of mentors of the scholarly sort. A messenger, aside from having quick feet, should be well educated in many subjects and develop a tasteful intellect, much like a buffet that offers a variety to the palette.

Speaking of food, brings me to my next morsel of news. As I supped this evening in the Hall of Fire, I heard a great murmur amongst the folk of the valley as they discussed the latest gossip of a well-known House in this valley. Worry not, Naneth, I will not partake in gossiping, yet I listened carefully, for a good messenger is always a well-informed one. Picking up what I could, it seems this House is of great renown: led by wise and fearless lords, populated by the noblest elves of all ages, defended by valiant warriors, educated by the most knowledgeable scholars...I digress as you must see my point now. The valley folk told me that the House was in an unusual uproar over the great feats of one of their warriors - one who ran into the snowy frosts of the Misty Mountains and emptied the goblin caves single-handedly in defense of the valley and in service to his House. You must guess that such a noble conquest cannot be without repercussions, and you guess correctly. It is said that this fearsome warrior lays on his deathbed, possibly having sacrificed his life so that the valley shall never face the threat of goblins from the north again. The wretched creatures know what face to fear and from whence he comes.

I think it quite fateful to have all this news laid on my lap on the first evening I arrive, in search of a noble peoples to offer my services. Such as it is, I will follow this road to find where destiny leads me. Wish me luck, for it seems I have a large fish to catch!

Your beloved,

Emliniel
