What a watcher does

Back for more I see? Well, what story to tell you this night eh? I could tell you a number of tales about her, from how she got a small scar on her right temple to the night she laid witness to Hawk hide a wounded man's unconscious body in a closet within the Pony. What's that? You wish to hear all of them? Very well, they are short lived, for naught came of either case, save a scar and a deed done later on.

Let me start with how she got that scar then. Like so many of her earlier bumps, bruises, scraps, and wounds, they all came in the line of being around a small group of friends. That Goldgel one of them! This night though was different for it was his then boss, Hawk that stood to get her in trouble. You see, back then, the Watchers weren't as upstanding as they may be now. They had one that liked to harass folk as much as he could. That night, he came in and drew blade on, who was then to Falra, an innocent man. If she knew then, what she knew later, things may have worked out very differently. But she didn't, and to her he was just Morri's father and the head of Goldgel's small group of people that hunted slavers and killers alike.

As she witnessed the watcher back Hawk up into a room, she attempted to do what she could. She went to search for help but found none. Another watcher would do no good, save give Morri's father a second person to have to face the steal of. After frantically looking within other rooms of the Inn, she returned in time to see the watcher bang down a locked door. Finding the room empty, save a broken window the man launched himself through it. The combatants had taken things outside now. Moving quickly through the back door to offer up healing needs to those after the tussle, for it was not her way to deny anyone healing, in the wrong or not, she found that a woman had joined in by releasing a crossbow bolt into the arm of the struggling Hawk. Things were already unfair but they just became more so.

Seeing the blood swell from the wound in Hawk's arm, Falra steps up to seal it. With such a grievous wound the watcher would be bound to put down arms and attempt to calm matters, but it was not so. Just as she started to wind cloth to the wound to keep it from bleeding too much the watcher finally got himself through the window and down to the ground. He quickly sprung on top of Hawk, knocking him to the ground. Falra saw nothing else she could do save trying to push the large watcher from her wounded patient.

At the worst of times, another man joined the fray. Slashing and pushing at the watcher, at one point he was shoved away and that was when it happened. While Falra looked to make sure the new man was alright, the watcher took the handle of his axe and slammed it into the side of her head, knocking her out and splitting it open in the process. I wish I could tell you more of what happened, but she doesn't know. All she knows is that later she woke up somewhere cold. Blankets were piled high on her to keep her warm, cloth wrapped about her forehead to stave off the bleeding, and the light of a fire just outside. Holding hand to head, she crawled out and found Goldgel along with the man that tried to step in huddled around the fire. Falra knew not how long she was out, only that she still felt the pain of being hit so hard.

As she learned more of what happened, which wasn't much, for as soon as she was knocked unconscious Goldgel picked her up and ran off to safety. They rode several hours with her limp against his chest till he was sure they weren't being followed. It was only then that he found a small camp site. With no owner to stop him, he set her within the tent and sparked a fire to warm them all. While watching Goldgel tell of what happened, following his words with her eyes, she cleaned the small gash on her forehead and placed a single stitch to keep it closed.

Later the next day, when Falra finally passed out from exhaustion from being kept up till she could no longer stay awake, she woke to the sounds of a wagon's wheels on hard packed earth. Slowly sitting up, I'm told her head swam from the exertion of doing so, she found that she was in the back of a merchant wagon just entering Bree Town.

Never did Falra tell where she was taken, all she knew was there was snow and cold, people she trusted, and safety from the corruption of the watch.

Ah, I'm done with that tale now. I'll have to reveal to you what happened about Hawk and the man in the closet another time. I didn't think this one would take so much out of me. Now off with you, come see me another day.
