Branston's journal - Deorgast

My heart stopped beating earlier today, and my eyes could scarcely believe what they saw, even now my hand shakes as I record this entry...

I was by the fountain outside of the Prancing Pony in Bree talking with Deredan, when someone fired an arrow at us without a bodkin. In time Deredan caught sight of the rascal up upon the rooftops and challenged him to show himself...and indeed he did, there before us stood my friend, my kinsman whom I believed lost to me...I had seen a ghost surely? My legs went from underneath me.

The man I speak of is Deorgast, whom was reported dead and mourned by his company The Bloody Dawn as lost. I shed so many tears over his death, yet there he was, stood before me with that boyish grin across his face, I do not think I have ever embraced anyone as tightly.

Deorgast, former Captain of an Éored, fell foul of some of our own kinsman, who would trust the doubts and rumours of nay-sayers who wrongly accused him of abandoning some of his men. He was driven from his homelands and later hunted and believed to be slain by these accusers. But he was not murdered, and I thank Béma for his return.

Deorgast is a great bowman, known as “Swiftly” for the speed at which he can nock and release an arrow. But it is his skill at tracking and scouting that I shall ask him to tutor you in, for I know of none better. He has a kindness about him, but do not mistake this for weakness, Branston, many have tried to take advantage of Deorgast's kindness and learned of his limits.

His return, has turned my thoughts to another lost to me, Rossethor, perhaps there is still hope that he may return?  That is another entry for another day...
