Replacement

Months passed as the situation around Harwick stabilized again. The threat of the enemy is ever present but the people are slowly getting used to that situation. The defense of the town is strong, and is able to fend off a large Easterling attack.

Aemric sat in the corner of the mead hall of Harwick slowly filling his stomach with a salty stew. He was just about to drink a sip of mead when his captain came to sit in front of him. The captain smiled at him and said sarcastically "Looks tasty". Aemric continued to drink, gave a solemn look at the captain and continued eating his stew without a word. The captain shook his head "Allright, looks like your want to be alone. But before I go, I have news for you." Aemric kept quiet, he never liked this captain. The captain continued "The commander wants you stationed south at the East wall. He assigned you to serve under Mansig. They had troubles with some orcs at late." The captain placed the signed letter next to Aemrics plate, keeping his hand on the it as he grinned "I guess this is farewell Aemric." Out of nowhere Aemric smacks a dagger into the table between the captains fingers, pinning the letter in the table. The captain withdrew his hand and stumbled off the bench, he gave Aemric an angered look as he rushed out of the meadhall.

That night Aemric packed the few belongings he had and tied them to his saddlebag. From the darkness behind him he noticed a person standing behind him. Aemric did not look around but instead raised his hand above his shoulder as if he was to expect something to be given to him. A pouch of coins filled his empty hand, which he quickly stowed out of sight. Aemric turned around and saw a hooded and cloaked man, dressed in black as himself. The hooded man spoke in a low and silent voice "Payment from last task, well done". Aemric peered at him "You have something else for me I reckon?". The hooded man gave a sealed letter to Aemric "another criminal, find him." Aemric stowed the letter and turned to his horse and mounted it. The hooded man was gone. Aemric rode out of Harwick, heading south.
