Chronicle Content

It was just after sunset and Fiontann was standing near the West Gate of Bree, enjoying some fresh pipeweed, he was leaning against the Gate and looking far away, feeling the chilly wind on his face and admiring the moon. He inhaled some smoke and held it in his lungs, enjoying the taste of it, when, footsteps were heard approaching. He stood still trying to listen better when he heard some whispers at the other side, then the clinging of coins, falling in a palm and a man, probably the guard could be heard rushing away. Fiontann let out a sigh and waited, he wasn't expecting anyone to attack but it all seemed like that was going ot happen, he heard footsteps again, this time near the gate, he didn't turn to look at the person who came, he was still looking at the distance.

"Greetings!" said the man in an anxious tone. Fiontann turned to him curious, the man was standing in the shady part, clad in a grey cloak, with a hood on his face, he stood silent for some moments, then he said "Good evening." while exhaling the smoke and turning towards the fields again. "I am sorry to disturb you, are you Fiontann, of the Bloody Dawn?". "I am," answered Fiontann without turning to look at him "how can I be of help?" he asked. The man looked around with a swift move and made a step closer to Fion, "I am a merchant" he said whispering "but... Some papers of mine were stolen, if they fall into the wrong hands or are destroyed I will be ruined.". Fiontann turned and looked at him and nodded "I see, he said, you want them back...". The man nodded quickly a few times and said "Along with the papers I lost a golden ring with a ruby on it, I need that too, it was my wive's gift. I will pay you good if you can find it." he said almost begging. Fiontann looked at him up and down and said "We may be able to do something, our men are the most capable in these parts. Do we know who may have taken them and why?" he asked, his eyes narrowed as he exhaled the smoke once again away from the man's face. The man shook his head saying "Some bandits, a cart of mine was passing through the Shire when those brigands attacked and killed everyone on it and stole my goods. Only one of my employees survived and told me what happened, if those papers are gone I'm ruined..." he said, his hands were trembling, and his voice was coming out with difficulty. Fiontann nodded once again and asked "So, they may be in the Shire, were tehy enemies of yours?". Then man denied that, saying that it must have been a random attack, since it was only goods and no one knew about the papers "I need those papers, I don't care about the merchandise, I will pay you very good for your services, just bring me the papers and the ring."

Fiontann stood thoughtful for some moments, then he said "It will cost you... Tracking down an unknown band of thieves in the wild is a no easy task, and then having to kill them...", but the merchant interrupted him "I know, I will pay you well!" he said and gave him four pouches filled with gold coins. Fiontann took the pouches and carefully weighed them in his hands, then he nodded and said "Very well, we will find your papers sir." and extended his arm for a handshake. "Thank you," said the man "I will expect you with news... And I want to keep my anonymity..." and disappeared in the night, after a while the guard came, looking around making sure that he wasn't seen leaving his position. Fiontann chuckled as he looked at him and discreetly gave him some silver for the convenience. He headed to the Prancing Pony and asked Barliman for supplies, for an indefinite amount of time on the road, food water and medical stuff. Then he went home to prepare a poster for the Dawnhall.
