Warg

History...

Many years ere Redwick had ever met his companion Alfknutr he sat often within the Tavern of  Snowbourn. Many beloved moments he had within the tavern and he remembers the drinking, the singing and most of all he recalls the lassies who frequented the Tavern. That perhaps was one of his reasons for spending much time thither but indeed his ears were often taken elsewhere as he beheld the boasting of mighty men, particularly the boasting of Warg Slaying and the trophies of how mighty a beast they had slain. Teeth, skulls, paws, even claws. Redwick had never seen a Warg closer than at least two hundred paces but he had always wished to learn for what purpose men would hunt such beasts and for what purpose sap renown from their slayings.

Redwick's Warg...

In the freezing cold of the Misty Mountains Redwick stood on watch in the ruins where the company had set up camp. Many lied asleep by the warm fire as Redwick remained observant and wary for he feared that someone shall come forth whilst the company is unaware. His merriness sapped away by the cold of night but it was soon to return when one of his companions, Fridbjorn had awoken and came to keep watch alongside him. The two spoke long of happenings that had gone by till the sun had begun to peak out from the mountain tips. And so Redwick had gotten what little sleep he could muster but only to be awoken soon by Fridbjorn who had alerted him that it was time for the company to press on.

And so on they went, treading the paths of the Misty Mountains through thick snow and cold winds. Out of wariness the company had walked in a single line so that less footsteps would be left as they went forth and Redwick stood nearly at the very end with Therwen before himself. They often exchanged whispers as they walked and after a few hours they stopped upon a slope. Redwick could hear whispers being exchanged from the head of the company but he knew not what they were speaking of, then he asked Therwen'What is it? Why have we stopped?' and she who could not hear either shrugged but soon a message came down, past from one companion to another as spoken whispers to Redwick and to him was said. 'Archer needs Redwick at the front.' So Redwick stepped out of line and walked to the front of the Company where Tamruben who is known as 'Archer' stood and he pointed ahead at what was two Wargs, prowling and sniffing within the snow. Redwick swallowed and Archer had said to him, 'Shoot the one of the left and I shall take shoot the other, on my mark!' Due to Redwick's skill with a bow he had been chosen specifically for this task for he was the only other member of the company who could shoot well enough. So Archer and Redwick gained shooting range silently and took aim.

'...Three...'

'...Two...'

'One!'

Exclaimed Archer and two arrows whistled. One from Redwick's bow and the other from Archer's. Both were kill shots and both the wargs were felled upon the ice-cold snow. Redwick hesitated and stood there for a while as he beheld his kill. He was caught in awe but soon sent back to the line, remaining in awe he spoke lowely to Therwen and asked, 'Did you see that?' She peered back at him with a smile and give him a nod, like an excited child he was and the thought remained long with him of how he had slain his first warg.
