Background
Lonoric is, to put it mildly, a bit of an oddity for a hobbit. While his kin are typically found pottering about their gardens, tucking into second breakfast, or gossiping about the neighbours, Lonoric has always had his head in the clouds (or more accurately, in a very dusty book). His family tree, like a badly drawn map, suggests he's a distant relation of just about everyone in the Shire, possibly from the Brandybuck lot, or maybe the Underhills, no one's quite sure, and frankly, Lonoric's too busy to care.
From a young age, Lonoric displayed a most unhobbit-like obsession with anything old and crumbly. While other children were out playing conkers or hide-and-seek, Lonoric could be found in the attic, poring over ancient scrolls (mostly shopping lists and the odd recipe for mushroom pie, but he didn't know that). He taught himself to read and write, a skill considered by many to be only slightly less peculiar than juggling ferrets.
His fascination with the past led him, inevitably, to the Old Mathom House in Michel Delving. For those not in the know, the Mathom House is where hobbits store all their unwanted gifts and general odds and ends. To most, it's a place of forgotten clutter, like a giant, dusty attic. But to Lonoric, it's a veritable treasure trove! He landed a job there, much to the bewilderment of everyone else. His colleagues, bless them, find him both endearing & utterly baffling. They'll often find him muttering to himself, surrounded by piles of dusty junk, with a magnifying glass clamped to his eye.
Despite his quirks, Lonoric is a harmless soul. He's always happy to share his (often wildly speculative) historical theories with anyone who'll listen, though most tend to nod politely and then make a swift exit. He's a gentle, if somewhat eccentric, hobbit, who finds joy in the most unlikely of places, and who proves that even in the most ordinary of places, there's always a bit of history to be unearthed even if it's just a really weird turnip.
